Keagan Latham noticed a difference in consistent gelding Momack when he partnered the galloper to victory at Rosehill two weeks ago.

Momack had a couple of trainer changes in the two years since Keagan Latham previously rode the five-year-old, who is now with Blake Ryan, and when the duo combine again in the Midway Handicap (1400m) on Saturday he will do so with even more confidence in the horse.

"He was quite a difficult horse, he needed things to go his way, but Blake seems to have got a lot out of him in the time he's had him,'' Latham said.

"Hopefully things can go his way like it did the other day.

"He's an on speed kind of horse, he travels nicely in the ground and if he doesn't get attacked early he can be strong on the line."

The gelding's half length win over Anagain, who lines up against him once again, cost him 2.5kg going into Saturday's race but the extra impost doesn't overly concern Latham.

He doesn't expect to change too much from the winning formula and will look to put Momack, $9 with TAB on Friday, either in or near the lead once again and hope to get him comfortable.

"He's a big horse so he should be able to carry the weight, it's a similar sort of race to last time and I think he can be competitive again,'' he said.

"Anagain is the horse we have to beat but it will have to come from behind us so if we can get some easy fractions in the early part of the race he can be strong.

"He relishes the ground and he deserved that win the other day. Hopefully it can push his confidence in the right direction."

Rainbow Connection has his second run from a year's break in the Canadian Club Handicap (1200m) and Latham is looking forward to his first race ride on the four-year-old.

He partnered Matt Dunn's handy galloper in a barrier trial prior to the horse resuming two weeks ago where he was beaten eight lengths by Mnementh after drawing barrier one.

Latham is certain Rainbow Connection will take improvement from the run and any upgrades in the track would be in his favour.

And he hopes an outside barrier this time around may work in his favour come the last race.

"I really like him, his form was very good early on and I think he is a horse that has a lot of potential,'' he said.

"By the time he got to the last race the inside would have been a ploughed field which would, have been a huge disadvantage.

"He would have needed that run and it was a heavy 9 but he was only beaten eight lengths and he will improve out of it."
