A fierce will to win has helped deliver Siege another important metropolitan victory after jockey Chad Schofield was forced to throw his game plan out the window.

Schofield had anticipated Saturday's Celebration Of Women In Racing Handicap (1000m) being run at a faster tempo and wanted to ride Siege patiently before making his run on the better ground down the centre of the Randwick track.

But when the speed was slower than expected and Siege settled midfield and in the middle of the ruck, Schofield had to angle back towards the inside and ride for luck.

"I always planned to come down the middle but they rushed up around me on the turn and I couldn't come out, I had to go back in, and it is a bit inferior towards the inside," Schofield said.

"One thing Darren (Beadman) said to me before the race is she loves a fight and she certainly did.

"She has got a good will to win, she has got an impeccable record and she has been extremely well placed so onwards and upwards."

Godolphin's assistant trainer, Beadman praised Schofield's initiative and said the well-bred mare, who is a full sister to stablemate and dual Group 3 winner Heresy , had likewise done a fine job.

"She's a mighty mare, she has got an impeccable record and everything just worked out delightfully for her early stages," Beadman said.

"Chad gave her a 10 out of 10 ride, 10 out of 10 performance by the horse and 10 out of 10 by the team, so it was gold stars everywhere."

Landing her fourth win from five starts, Siege ($3.90 fav) prevailed by a short head over Easy Single ($6) with Our Bellagio Miss ($13) another half-length away.

Schofield was the first senior rider to strike a blow at Randwick with the first five races taken out by apprentice jockeys.
