In Brief

  • Vamos Stakes winner Take the Sit ready to resume racing.
  • Ryan struggling to find suitable races.
  • Melbourne likely target beyond 26 June 26.

The Bill and Monica Ryan-trained mare will have her first start this preparation in an open handicap over 1400m in Launceston on Sunday week (26 June).

Ryan hasn't looked beyond that race but admitted the lack of suitable races at home could lead to her having to venture to Melbourne.

"There aren't a lot of options open to her in Tassie and she is virtually open company in Melbourne and if she wins in Launceston Sunday week, she will obviously get a penalty and that could make her harder to place across the water," Ryan said.

Brendan McCoull usually rides Take the Sit when available but with him out of action Ryan has turned to Anthony Darmanin who rode four winners last Sunday in Devonport.

"I've spoken to Darma's manager, but he won't commit, so I might have to look elsewhere."

Take The Sit notched her biggest win in the Group 3 $150,000 Vamos Stakes in Launceston in February after which she was placed third in an open handicap in Launceston behind Galenus.

Another impressive trial winner on Tuesday was the Adam Trinder-trained Ginny Ann, a former South Australian mare that is yet to race in Tasmania.

The five-year-old mare led in the three-horse trial over 800m and extended her lead in the home straight to score comfortably from Banca Nip and Iskra.

It wasn't strong opposition but her last 600m dash in 34.67s suggests she will be competitive in the right grade when she ventures to the races.

Ginny Ann was originally trained in Victoria by Symon Wilde for whom she had 26 starts for three wins and nine minor placings before being transferred to David Jolly in South Australia where she placed twice from four starts and all over sprint distances.

Her first-up options could be a class three handicap over 1200m in Launceston on Sunday week or a C3 (1150m) the following Sunday (3 July) on her home track in Devonport.
