Goulburn trainer makes three-hour hike to Wyong (Thursday)

3 minute read

Goulburn trainer Tash Burleigh will make a rare appearance at Wyong on Thursday when she saddles up Pokerjack ($2.40 favourite on TAB), her only runner on the day, in the Ainsworth Leisure Group Maiden Plate (1100m). The four-year-old has been runner-up in his only two starts this preparation at Hawkesbury and Kembla and he is well placed after in-form apprentice Amy McLucas claims 3kg.

Pokerjack raced on the speed when beaten less than a length last start at Hawkesbury on May 31. Two starts back on a heavy 10 track at Kembla he was beaten two lengths in a strong maiden field.  McLucas on loan to John Thompson rode four winners in seven days at Newcastle recently. She has been aboard Pokerjack in his last two starts.

John O'Shea will send three gallopers to Wyong and all three will be hard to beat. New Zealand bred Count On Me ($3.20) will run in the Star FM 104.5 Maiden Handicap (1600m) with Hugh Bowman aboard. The 3yo has had two runs this prep and he was runner-up at Newcastle last start.

O'Shea's Denarau ($3 fav) will be ridden by Tommy Berry in the 1600m The Roos Foundation Benchmark 64 Handicap. The filly was an easy winner of a 1600m maiden on this track on June 2. O'Shea's European import Siyata ($3.50) has his second Australian start in the final event the 1100m Doyalson RSL Class 1 Handicap. The mare trialled well at Randwick recently with Hugh Bowman in the saddle and the champion jockey has the mount on Thursday. Local 3yo Fielding ($3 fav) placed in all five starts deserves a change of luck in the Gosford RSL Club Maiden (1100m).

RACE 1, THE ENTRANCE LEAGUES CLUB CLASS 1 & MAIDEN, 2000M: Launch Attack ($3.40 fav) wasn't far away on this track last start. She was placed in a stronger field than this on this track on April 28. The blinkers go on and she is a winner on a soft track. Alloway ($4.20) was placed in the country last start and Battenburg ($3.50) has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 3 LAUNCH ATTACK, 1 ALLOWAY, 2 BATTENBURG

RACE 2, MINGARA RECREATION CLUB MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M: Twelve Hours ($4.40) was narrowly beaten on a heavy track at Canterbury on may 25. She came from a long way back to go down by half a length. The filly will appreciate the longer trip and she will carry 55kg. The Replicant ($2.30 fav) hasn't raced since he was placed at Newcastle in January but he has had two recent trials. Stellar Moment ($6.50) is on debut but has performed well in trials.
SELECTIONS: 12 TWELVE HOURS, 7 THE REPLICANT, 11 STELLAR MOMENT

RACE 3, AINSWORTH LEISURE GROUP MAIDEN PLATE, 1100M: Pokerjack ($2.40 fav) has been placed in his past three starts and he is knocking on the door. He was runner-up in a strong Kembla maiden first-up on May 3. Last start the gelding was beaten less than a length at Hawkesbury after racing on the speed. In form apprentice Amy McLucas will claim 3kg. Oakfield Blossom ($5) was never on the track first-up at Tamworth when favourite. Harapan ($5) has solid country form.
SELECTIONS: 2 POKERJACK, 9 OAKFIELD BLOSSOM, 1 HARAPAN

RACE 4, GOSFORD RSL CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1100M: Valoria ($4.20) put the writing on the wall with a close second on debut at Canterbury on June 8. The filly was midfield before finishing strong to fail by 0.38 of a length. She has the rails barrier and Tim Clark. Fielding ($3 fav) is fast and has been placed in all five starts including three on this track. The Halo ($6.50) was unlucky on this track last start.
SELECTIONS: 4 VALORIA, 1 FIELDING, 8 THE HALO

RACE 5, STAR FM 104.5 MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1600M: Former Kiwi The Milkybar Kid ($2.30 fav) is set to atone for his erratic performance at Gosford on May 2. It was his first Australian start and he veered to the outside fence when leading in the home straight. He has since won a trial and has blinkers for the first time. Count On Me ($3.20) is fitter after a solid second at Newcastle second-up while first starter Metaphysics ($9) has trialled okay.
SELECTIONS: 1 THE MILKYBAR KID, 5 COUNT ON ME, 3 METAPHYSICS

RACE 6, THE ROOS FOUNDATION BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP, 1600M: Denarau ($3 fav) was impressive in an easy win on this track on June 2. She came from well back and raced away late. The filly has performed well in all three starts this preparation. Tommy Berry has the mount again. Oakfield Storm ($3.40) has won two from three in the country and is on his home track. The Maxinator ($3.50) is racing well.
SELECTIONS: 5 DENARAU, 2 OAKFIELD STORM, 1 THE MAXINATOR

RACE 7, THE BELLA GROUP BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP, 1350M: Harlem Groove ($4.80 fav) caught the eye when running on into third place second up on this track on June 2. One Way Street ($5.50) has a good record on this track.
SELECTIONS: 5 HARLEM GROOVE, 10 RUNNING BEAR, 7 ONE WAY STREET

RACE 8, DOYALSON RSL CLASS 1 HANDICAP, 1100M: European mare Siyata ($3.50) will be hard to beat in her second Australian start. She finished midfield in her Australian debut on Scone Cup Day on May 13 and she won a recent Randwick trial in good style. Hugh Bowman rode her in the trial and he has the mount on Thursday. Xpresso ($3.30) is racing well and Divine Okay ($2.80 fav) has a chance.
