Punter's Intelligence Wrap - Royal Randwick, 25th June 2022

3 minute read

Jockey Glyn Schofield extended Taksu’s leading margin by approximately 4.8 meters between the 800m-600m mark, proving to be a tactical masterclass and the winning move in the Chandon Civic Stakes (1400m).

Punter's Intelligence recorded the gelding ran that split in 11.29, which had his rivals chasing and taking luck out of the equation. Further, he sustained a strong gallop between the 600m-200m in 23.12 and held off all the late challengers over the final furlong due to the early initiative.

Even after adjusting for age, class and additional factors historically, the race rated well relative to the day. In addition, the overall time was approximately six lengths faster than the TAB Highway (1400) and the Benchmark 78 Elite Sand & Soil Handicap (1400m).

The unlucky runner of the race Oscar Zulu was checked/blocked for most of the straight and should have won with a clear passage.

Once the Chris Waller trained galloper saw clear air, he savaged the line posting one of the fastest final 200m sectionals of the day in 11.59.

The hidden run of the race was arguably Lightning Jack, who improved significantly with the blinkers back on.

The five-year-old gelding had excuses throughout transit and had to make his run through the inferior ground. Moreover, he ran the race's second-quickest 400m/200m splits in 23.04/11.82 and expect him to peak next start.

The Benchmark 72 Precise Air Handicap (1300m) was one of the day's more highly anticipated races, with multiple sectional performers.

The race was run at a moderate pace, with the first 700m being run in 43.35.

Winner Rebel Shadow settled at the rear of the field, but jockey Tyler Schiller navigated a way through, and the gelding showed an electric turn of foot, sprinting the meeting fastest 400m/200m sectionals in 22.47/11.42. He is racing well/consistently this preparation and can win again in a similar grade.

Pretty Wild started hard in the market and ran up to expectations. However, she did not appreciate being crowded in the straight but once clear, she picked herself up and ran the race's second quickest final 200m in 11.50. The three-year-old filly will only improve with race experience and can continue progressing this preparation in more genuinely run races.

Sacrimony has been up for a long time, but his run was full of merit. The three-year-old gelding had the pace/bias against him and still ran the race's second-fastest final 600m split in 34.20.

Comme Bella Fille had too much to do in the Benchmark 88 ACY Securities Handicap (1800m) after settling worse than midfield at a slow pace and then having to make her run in the inferior ground.

The John O'Shea trained mare ran the race quickest final 600m/400m/200m sectionals in 34.89/23.26/11.91. Continue to follow this preparation as she is on an upwards ratings spiral and is suited over further distance.

Kalino bounced back into the winner's stall after having every chance when winning the Schweppes Handicap (1600m). Although having all favours, the gelding appreciated the drier surface and sprinted one of the fastest final 600m splits across the day in 34.30.

Tympanist should've finished closer, and King Of Hearts ran the quickest final 200m sectional of the race in 11.74.

It's worth mentioning the return of Consript, who got too far back but made considerable ground in the Petaluma Handicap (1100m) and ran the meeting's second-fastest final 600m split in 33.83. The winner Hulk was just a click behind in 33.88.

Fastest last 600m: Just Field 33.79
