Rain washes out half of Rosehill card

3 minute read

The final five races at Rosehill have been called off due to the wet weather, but not before jockey Tim Clark endured a wild ride.

Tim Clark has demonstrated outstanding horsemanship to stay in the saddle after previously unbeaten filly Shades Of Rose turned on a buckjumping display in the fifth race.

The Bisley Workwear Handicap (1100m) went pear-shaped for favourite backers shortly after the start when the three-year-old's saddle slipped, prompting the buckjumping performance.

While Clark was able to stay aboard, he was forced to retire Shades Of Rose from the race, which went on to be won by outsider Rive Del Sol.

"She had a breastplate on her and when she's obviously stretched those first few strides out of the gates, it has gone back," Clark told stewards.

The saddle shifted despite the filly wearing a non-slip pad underneath it, and while chief steward Marc Van Gestel conceded the wet weather would not have helped her cause, he ordered Shades of Rose back to the barrier trials.

"We understand the saddle has shifted back and that's the reason that she has bucked, but given the circumstances, we would need to see her in a trial before she goes around again and we would need to see her race pad before she goes back to the races so we can ensure all of that is not going to happen again," Van Gestel said.

In the absence of Shades Of Rose, the Con Karakatsanis-trained Riva Del Sol ($41) scored a boilover win to give injury-plagued jockey Andrew Adkins a timely boost.

With his two other Rosehill rides both scratched, Riva Del Sol was Adkins' only mount of the afternoon and he was thrilled to make the most of the opportunity, particularly for the Karakatsanis stable.

"She attacked the line quite nicely and she relished that track, that's for sure," Adkins said.

"It feels good, especially for Con too. He is a champion bloke and a very loyal trainer to me.

"It's good to get any winner, anywhere, but especially in town."

Riva Del Sol was the final winner at Rosehill on Saturday with the meeting postponed after the fifth race due to the deteriorating weather conditions and poor visibility.
