Some big names took another step towards to the spring with strong trials that will have them ready to perform when they resume.

The Godolphin stars ANAMOE and CASCADIAN stood out in the Group heat over 1000m on the course proper; MALKOVICH had too much speed for his rivals in the 900m black type heat and the old warrior EDUARDO looked as good as ever in his comeback trial on the inside grass.

ANAMOE did all that was required to win the 1000m heat (62.05; 36.47), sitting off the leader ANGEL IN TRUTH and extending under no pressure to claim a narrow win. It was the first time in his career that he has won a trial and was good improvement off his first-up soft trial - nothing less than you would expect from a horse of his class.

His older stablemate CASCADIAN was the real star, settling out the back as usual before striding strongly to the line to finish an impressive third with Rachel King swinging against him as he ran through the line under a big grip. It confirmed the form he displayed in his first trial and points to him being a big player in any race he contests through the spring.

PROFONDO was efficient finishing fourth under an easy ride in his second trial while I would like to see DUAIS, seventh beaten 4.5 lengths, trial again before drawing any conclusions.

MALKOVICH sped over the 900m on the course proper for a solid win (53.83; 35.38) over the class mare SNAPDANCER. The runner-up worked well within herself and will take benefit from this trial while the talented SPACEWALK impressed with his strong third after covering ground in a sterling prep for the coming 3YO races.

He's now a 9YO but EDUARDO showed he has lost none of his natural speed by leading for a comfortable win in his 816m heat (48.85; 34.50). The time wasn't flash against lesser opponents but he worked easily and could have gone quicker.

The quickest times in the short course heats were recorded by the ACAPELLA SUN (816m - 47.66; 33.15); CUBAN BREEZE (813m – 48.02; 33.67) and SACRED FIELD (810m – 47.61; 33.98). The latter pair are promising maidens and should pick up wins in the near future.

A standout in the 813m heats was Annabel Neasham's Group 2 winner SWISS EXILE finishing a strong second behind ACAPELLA SUN.  He sat off the winner and allowed him to slip clear on the turn before closing strongly in the last 100m under a big hold. There was plenty of quality in this heat with Godolphin's unbeaten filly IN SECRET finishing third without being asked for a serious effort.

Neasham also has a running maiden prospect in the unraced OVERTHROW. He won a Warwick Farm trial last month and cleared out with a fast win in his 813m heat (48.16; 34.14) by almost seven lengths.

Godolphin had several other nice triallers including LARKSPUR RUN, CAPO STRADA, KIN and SEQUESTERED. The Hawkes stable would also have been pleased by promising efforts from GIVARA, GRAND CRUSADER and I AM YOURS.
