The Pinnacles have arrived with the Champion Fillies and Placid Ark taking centre stage.
With the spring carnival (almost) over on the eastern seaboard, attention turns to the west as The Pinnacles carnival for 2023 begins this Saturday.
Lucky for you, Racing and Sports has all The Pinnacles info you need in one place! For all the news, insights and race previews, check out The Pinnacles section by clicking here!
There's plenty of action right across the card with the three-year-old's taking centre stage in the WA Champion Fillies Stakes (which has been analysed beautifully here) and the Placid Ark stakes, but there's plenty more to quench punters' thirst.
For my best bet of the day, we'll head to the first of the black type races on Saturday, the R.J Peters Stakes where one-time Railway favourite ALSEPHINA is set to line up.
Alsephina just missed first-up in the Asian Beau when the race was dominated up front by Marocchino. Now on the fringe of gaining a start in next weeks G1 Railway Stakes, the five-year-old has to win this weekend to secure her chance in the WA's Group 1 mile handicap. Everything looks perfectly set up for the mare on Saturday, and there's no doubt William Pike, Grant and Alana Williams will leave no stone unturned as they chase more Group 1 glory.
The market seems to have a good hold on most of the races this Saturday so finding an 'each-way play' was hard to come by. Instead, we'll head back to the well with Dion Luciani's mare MY BELLA MAE.
Things just didn't pan out well for her last start in the Prince Of Wales Stakes, getting well back in the run and being held up on straightening as Carbery tried to pick his way through the pack.
Although she's settled well back in her past two efforts, she's never sat worse than fifth in running when racing at 1200m or beyond. Carbery and Luciani may take luck out of the equation on Saturday, racing closer to the speed and bouncing back after a disappointing performance last time out.
