Ladbrokes Blog: 2024 Doomben Member Rewards Day Preview

3 minute read

The Brisbane Racing Club will reward their members this Saturday at Doomben where nine races are scheduled to be run and won. At time of writing the track was rated a Soft 7 but with mostly sunny weather forecast, we should see an improving surface.

We've scoured the form guide and provided our top selections for each race.

RACE 1 - 11:53AM: QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1350 METRES)

Savour The Dream (1) looks a promising two-year-old from the Bevan Laming stable.

After finishing 1.8 lengths third on debut, the Super Seth colt improved significantly last start over 1200m at this track.

He enjoyed a nice run, but was held up behind the leader and only got clear with 100m to go, at which point he scraped the Dulux to power to a nose win.

He'll strip fitter third-up and the rise in distance looks ideal given the way he ran through the line.

1 Unit – Savour The Dream (1)

 BET NOW: Doomben Race 1

RACE 2 - 12:28PM: Colts, Geldings and Entires BENCHMARK 78 Handicap (1110 METRES)

Muschialli (3) resumes here with the benefit of a nice piece of work under his belt.

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding settled outside the leader and stablemate Liquor before working to the line nicely under his own steam.

He races particularly well fresh, boasting a first-up record of two wins and two placings from five starts.

One of those first-up wins came over 1050m at this track when resuming two preparations ago.

He maps to get a great run from the inside barrier and did win over this course and distance when starting from the pole last September.

1 Unit – Muschialli (3)

 BET NOW: Doomben Race 2

RACE 3 - 1:03PM: QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1110 METRES)

Invincible Shield (6) has hit the ground running since joining Tony Gollan's stable from Victoria.

The son of I Am Invincible bolted in when winning his maiden over 1200m here first-up.

He then produced a devastating turn of foot to win by three lengths last start, again over 1200m at this track.

He's since been back to the trials where he turned in a brilliant piece of work.

He maps to get a beautiful run from the inside barrier.

3 Units – Invincible Shield (6)

 BET NOW: Doomben Race 3

RACE 4 - 1:38PM: BENCHMARK 68 Handicap (1200 METRES)

I See You Coming (1) was unlucky not to resume with a win at Ipswich last start.

The Tony Gollan-trained five-year-old gelding enjoyed a nice run but was held up in the straight and only got clear with 100m to go at which point he attacked the line powerfully to finish a nose second.

He'll strip fitter second-up and will appreciate the rise to this distance.

Angela Jones can settle in a prominent position from barrier 3.

 BET NOW: Doomben Race 4

RACE 5 - 2:13PM: BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1600 METRES)

Brasco (14) has been racing well and looks ready to take a mile on for the first time.

The Chris Waller-trained son of Street Boss powered home from the back in the quickest final 600m of the race to win over 1350m here two starts back.

Last start he settled a long way back after drawing terribly but ran on strongly to finish 2.7 lengths fifth.

The way he ran through the line suggested that he is crying out for this longer trip now that he's rock hard fit.

1 Unit – Brasco (14)

 BET NOW: Doomben Race 5

RACE 6 - 2:52PM: Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 78 Handicap (1110 METRES)

Liquor (2) didn't have much go right for her last preparation in stronger races than this.

The Tony Gollan-trained mare resumes here on the back of a nice trial win where she showed electric early speed to lead before working to the line well under her own steam.

While she is yet to win at Doomben, she has won five of 11 career starts so when she's right, she is very good.

Angela Jones has won three of her six rides on her and can give her a lovely run on speed from the nice gate.

1 Unit – Liquor (2)

 BET NOW: Doomben Race 6

RACE 7 - 3:32PM: Class 3 Plate (1350 METRES)

Atmosphere (1) impressed in his first start for Jack Bruce on Ipswich Cup Day.

The former Godolphin galloper used barrier 1 to advantage to lead over 1100m and had enough in the tank to hold them off for a nose victory.

He had a good blow after the race so he will no doubt have come on since then and strip fitter second-up.

He'll appreciate the rise in trip and is well weighted compared to his rivals under the set weight conditions of the race.

If he gets a touch of luck from the wide gate, then he should be fighting out the finish.

1 Unit – Atmosphere (1)

 BET NOW: Doomben Race 7

RACE 8 - 4:08PM: BENCHMARK 85 Handicap (1600 METRES)

Madame Odette (15) was always in the worst going when resuming over 1400m at Eagle Farm.

The Tony Gollan-trained mare bounced back last start when stepping up to this distance at Ipswich where she stormed home from the back to finish a length second.

She'll strip fitter and has won two of three third-up races including the Toowoomba Guineas by 5.5 lengths over this distance.

She's up in class but drops to 54.5kg and the strong speed will aid her cause.

1 Unit – Madame Odette (15)

 BET NOW: Doomben Race 8

RACE 9 - 4:43PM: BENCHMARK 85 Handicap (1350 METRES)

Atlantic Ocean (14) added to the long list of Chris Waller-trained horses that have come north from Sydney and won their first race in Brisbane.

The son of I Am Invincible hadn't been too far away in three southern races this preparation but enjoyed the easier competition last start when dashing clear to win by 1.5 lengths over this course and distance.

He rises in class but drops 4.5kg to the minimum weight.

From barrier 2, Jake Bayliss can give his mount a sweet run.

1 Unit – Atlantic Ocean (14)
