Mostert's appeal for Darwin DSQ rejected

3 minute read

Chaz Mostert's horror start to the Supercars' Darwin Triple Crown has been compounded by an appeal to his race one disqualification being rejected.

Bathurst 1000 champion Chaz Mostert's appeal to his Darwin disqualification has been rejected after Walkinshaw Andretti United failed to file their paperwork in time.

Mostert, who finished fourth in race one of the Supercars' Indigenous round, was on Saturday night eliminated from the race after stewards found WAU illegally operated a fan onto the radiator of his Commodore.

The 30-year-old lost the 80 points he earned for the race at Hidden Valley Raceway but remained fifth in the championship standings.

"When it was on the grid for the commencement of race 16, a battery-operated air blower was inserted in the front bumper of car 25," a Motorsport Australia statement read on Saturday night.

WAU followed up by releasing a short statement saying the team was challenging the decision.

But the appeal was emphatically rejected by MA.

"Motorsport Australia confirmed the time for any appeal to be lodged had elapsed one hour after the initial decision had been released on Saturday night," a statement read.

"In this instance, while the team had publicly flagged their intentions to appeal, the appeal process was not followed as per the regulations and the appropriate paperwork was never received.

"There are no further avenues of appeal."

Mostert will be desperate to put the drama of Saturday behind him when he starts from ninth for the second race of the weekend.
