Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for July 9.
Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Caulfield, Doomben, Gawler, Belmont Park, Pakenham and Rockhampton.
CAULFIELD: RACE 6 @ 2:55 PM
SIGH (7) looked the part on debut and, following a spell, returned to look an even better model at Murray Bridge. Strong winner there and this looks a lovely option for her to follow up and make it three on end. FORZANINI (1) resumes from a break having been caught out here before the spell when tested in tougher. That went against her but she earned her shot with three prior wins that read well back at this level. The blinkers go on to NICCOLITE (15) who runs for the hot yard while MRS CHRISSIE (14) must be respected having won impressively on debut.
SELECTIONS: Take a deep breath and back Sigh.

DOOMBEN: RACE 9 @ 4:03 PM
DZSENIFER (3) looks the horse to beat in an open race. She comes here on the quick backup after just missing at Sunshine Coast last week. Back out to a mile from a soft gate looks ideal. CHARMMEBABY (2) was hardly disgraced in the G1 Tatts Tiara last start, finishing eighth after a tough run. She's back in a winnable race and must be respected. NARRATED (19) also needs to get a run but has upside and was far too good at Canterbury last time. SELEQUE (7) was successful at her latest appearance over 1660m at this track, scoring by 1.5 lengths. Key runner who is a great chance to measure up again.
SELECTIONS: Backing Dzenifer.
GAWLER: RACE 8 @ 3:52 PM
Siding with DIAMONDS (4) who comes over from Melbourne as a key chance. She was a tough winner at Flemington two back before a solid effort dropping back to 1000m last time. Back up to 1200m suits better and she looks well in as a listed placegetter. AIGUILETTE (6) couldn't reel in the winner last time at Morphettville in a harder race. He's only up 2kg for this class drop and he'll be strong late. EXTREME THRILL (7) wasn't far away in sixth in the same race and can figure again. MIDNIGHT STORM (1) stuck on well there also and will strip fitter.
SELECTIONS: Diamonds to win.
BELMONT PARK: RACE 3 @ 1:23 PM
RELIABLE STAR (2) was far too strong for a similar lineup here two weeks ago and carries the same weight. Clearly the horse to beat. BOLD SUCCESS (5) is racing in super form and while no match for Reliable Star last time he fought on nicely. Sure to give a good account again. FASHION QUEEN (4) is taking time to find form again but wasn't disgraced third-up and could be looking for the extra ground. Give another chance. SUNSPHERE (8) and BARAMAGIC (6) are worth considering.
SELECTIONS: Reliable Star to win. Trifecta 2-4,5,6,8/4,5,6,8.
PAKENHAM SYNTHETIC: RACE 1 @ 12:41 PM
This race sets up perfectly for THE BALLET DANCER (11). Put the writing on the wall last start when second up from a break, charging home late to get up for second over 1400m at this circuit. Ready for the mile and just needs a bit of luck from the wide gate to be opening her account. VAIN FOX (5) ran a much better race last time out, racing keenly with blinkers on then finding plenty to be beaten only 1.4 lengths over 1200m on the Ballarat synthetic. That gear has been removed for this sharp step up in trip. Sure to give a great sight. ROYAL LANDING (10) debuted over 1400m here last start and after racing on the pace but wide tired in the closing stages for a midfield finish. Drawn to enjoy a much better run today and is a likely improver. GARBENYA (8) worked home nicely from near the tail to grab fourth on debut recently over 1400m at this track. In the mix as she steps up in journey. Stablemate GULINGI (1) wasn't far away last time and is an each-way hope.
SELECTIONS: Keen on #11 The Ballet Dancer.
ROCKHAMPTON: RACE 8 @ 4:54 PM
BOLD PEDRO (1) has just been nudged out both starts back with the latest this distance range at Eagle Farm in better grade. 3x winning rider Wiggins is reunited and will us the inside barrier. Fitter and looks one of the better bets on the program. LOCA (8) just missed at the Gold Coast third-up and the extra 200m won't bother. Fradd sticks and can get him into the quinella. I AM CLEVER (4) rates similarly off the 55 win here and is on the improve. Has the outside gate but Pike is booked and count on him to manage that. TENNESSEE WHISKEY (3) was a big trial winner here but was out-graded first-up. Gets a gear tweak and looks capable of filling a minor slot at a price.
