Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for July 12.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Albury, Gunnedah, Ballarat and Cairns.
ALBURY: RACE 6 @ 4:10 PM
SNOWBELLA (2) loves this course and distance and was only beaten 0.8L when fresh 22 days ago. She's drawn perfectly, she loves the wet going and the 2kg claim brings her right back to the rest of the field. She looks very hard to beat. TURN BACK TIME (3) is another who appears to love the wet going, but disappointed at Corowa last time out. The rise in trip suits and although he has a big weight to lug, he's drawn well and will take plenty of beating. NOBLE NIGHTOWL (7) led and held on at Corowa last start over 1200m and maps for a similar run today. He handles the going and he'll be tough to run down. MISS ELSIE MAY (11) hasn't been seen for some time but has a great fresh record and does handle the wet. She can run a cheeky race.
SELECTIONS: Snowbella looks the one to beat.

GUNNEDAH: RACE 6 @ 3:10 PM
Kris Lees took ASHERLA (1) to town for her return last start but after showing pace to the corner she dropped out at the end of 1000m at the Kensington track. Good second up performer who will find this far easier. Well in after the claim and looks the testing material. QUICK NICK (6) was caught on a limb and failed to run on at his latest appearance over 1200m at Port Macquarie. Form before that in better races over today's journey was sound. Good each-way hope. Veteran mare ELLEBEEDEE (15) is back from a 23-week spell. Hasn't won for a while but is a useful fresh horse with an ideal gate so no surprise to see her in the finish. SO GOOD SO COOL (2) is a lightly-raced three-year-old first up since February for a new stable. Best effort in the first prep was a Bathurst maiden win over 1200m. Will be getting home hard. SHOOTING ZAA (9) has a solid top-three strike rate and on recent form is in the mix, but the early price looks a bit skinny.
SELECTIONS: #1 Asherla to win.
BALLARAT SYNTHETIC: RACE 5 @ 3:00 PM
NORTHWOOD POPPET (10) quickly found form beaten a whisker here second-up after a slow off. She has more to give and can sit handy. On a 7-day return and clearly the one to beat. STAR IN THE MIST (11) is in the premier barn and has been unlucky not to have broken through. Had plenty of excuses the latest and looks the danger. KNIGHT BATCHELOR (4) debuted as favourite on the heavy and didn't enjoy the surface. Has the outside barrier but has the blinkers are applied today. The McEvoy barn has a brutal record this track. HELEN'S BOY (1) tries hard and can fill the first-four.
SELECTIONS: Backing Northwood Poppet.
CAIRNS: RACE 3 @ 12:17 PM
BANK BANK BANK (5) switched from a leading Victorian barn and smashed the Maidens here by 6.8L. Has the speed to clear the awkward barrier and rates to go right on with it. ELITE STANDARD (1) runs along and won the 65 here before the near-miss in the CL6. The top hoop goes on for the apprentice and strikes at 40% with the barn. Peaks and despite the big weigh lift is the danger. SARANDOS (3) will use the low barrier and will improve off the solid first-up run. He's capable and Wiggins replacing the apprentice is a plus. PRIVATE SECTOR (6) didn't miss by far third-up and won't be far away using the rail.
SELECTIONS: Backing Bank Bank Bank.
