Today’s Horse Racing Tips – 23rd July 2022

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for July 23.

Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Randwick, Belmont, Caulfield, Doomben, Darwin, Mildura, Morphettville and Toowoomba.

RANDWICK: RACE 4 @ 1:00 PM

EASY SINGLE (5) was no match for Conscript last start but still wasn't disgraced and looks very well treated down in the weights for Pike. A slight niggle at the trip but looks to get every chance from the soft draw. ROCKETING BY (2) has always shown good ability and now returns as a gelding. Three trials should have him ready to fire and the booking of Bowman is a nice push. Major threat. ENCHANTED HEART (3) drops back sharply in grade and is sure to appreciate the wet track. More than capable on best form and has to be kept safe. PRIME CANDIDATE (1) failed last start but is better than that and is worth another chance.
SELECTIONS: Backing Easy Single with Pike aboard.

BELMONT PARK: RACE 5 @ 2:43 PM

FRIGID (4) is a very promising type who has been far too good winning both starts this time in. Has a wide gate but with even luck early can continue on her winning way. NERO KING (6) is a major threat, he's also a horse on the way up coming off a strong win in easier company. Definite chance. KENTUCKY BLUE (9) is consistent and did a good job to place behind Nero King last time out. Sure to be around the mark again. MAGNIFICENT ANDY (2) and SERVICEMAN (11) have each-way claims.
SELECTIONS: Frigid to win. Trifecta 4-2,6,9,11/2,6,9,11.

CAULFIELD: RACE 5 @ 2:25 PM

FERAGO (9) arrives here off a pair of narrow misses at Sandown, both behind the same winner. At least as good as that winner last time, running well and seeing out the journey strongly and that could be the difference this time. The longer trip must be the query around NO EFFORT (3) who heads up the ratings but will want to get a softer lead than she got last time. She ran a cracker there, just picked off in the last stride having made the running and set up a strong rating. It's good form if she can stay. REUBER (1) won here last time and toughed it out really well at the 2000m. Longer trip holds no fears for him. ROLLS (8) was sound on speed behind him and will make his own luck again while the hurdler CHAINS OF HONOUR (6) is far from hopeless back on the flat and should be considered.
SELECTIONS: Trip makes Ferago the bet.

DOOMBEN: RACE 2 @ 12:33 PM

FAST TALKING (4) looks hard to beat. He stuck on well but just found Barade better last time at this track. He's in flying form, gets a weight swing and is better suited if the ground is wet. Should tag the leader and prove too good. HOSTAGE OF WAR (8) looks the leader and will give a sight without a lot of obvious pressure around in the small field. SEAT OF POWER (2) might be the other one to press up and be part of the early pace. Has a hope.
SELECTIONS: Fast Talking to win.

FANNIE BAY: RACE 1 @ 1:53 PM

THE MISTRAL (1) first try this region started favourite over 1000m at this track but found a couple better. Due for a change of luck today, and this doesn't look overly tough. The one to beat. NEW ROMAN (2) comes here off a last-start sixth, beaten 5 lengths, over 1300m at this track. Has been mixing form of late and has genuine claims on best form. SUDANN (5) didn't make an impact at his last run before going for a spell on April 23. Has struggled in two runs this region but has okay fresh stats. SWEET CHEVAL (3) has been out of the placings in two runs since a break. Finally drawn a barrier today and has place prospects.
SELECTIONS: The Mistral to win.

GOLD COAST: RACE 2 @ 12:49 PM

GODDESS OF PEACE (7) another Helen Page runner, (can easily win the first two races) with this promising Caravaggio filly. Will find this much easier after racing on the speed for a gritty second over 1050m at Doomben last start. Gets the run of the race from the good draw. AMISFIELD (5) is resuming after finishing a game fourth over 1210m at Lismore on December 17. Two recent trials have been good and looks a genuine winning prospect. ART HEIST (3) indicated a win was close after a solid finishing third at this track over 900m on June 11. Has claims despite the wide gate. CELTIC HARP (4) returns from a short break for the Vandyke yard running a game fifth over 1200m at Newcastle on June 4. Looked good when second in a recent Deagon trial placing. Must be kept safe.
SELECTIONS: Goddess Of Peace to win.

MILDURA: RACE 2 @ 12:56 PM

MAGIC CHLOE (6) will be improved by first-up effort at Warrnambool where she was close up despite missing a place. Placed second-up last campaign and is expected to feature prominently here. ICY ISEA (5) led them up before tiring on the Ballarat synthetic when making her debut. Will be improved by that experience and cannot be dismissed. SAUCE DRAGON (1) led and boxed on soundly at Wodonga last time out. Comes back in trip for this assignment and has to be respected. DOUBLE ROCK (2) is a three-year-old filly by Pierro who was purchased for $100,000. Is sure to have been well educated and will pay to follow any betting moves.
SELECTIONS: Back Magic Chloe to win.

MORPHETTVILLE PARKS: RACE 4 @ 1:32 PM

EROS (1) looks primed to break through here. Both runs this time in have been good, narrowly beaten into second at each start. He gets the blinkers on for the first time and draws ideally with leading jockey Todd Pannell booked. Should be going close. ZEBELLA (14) stuck on well on debut at Gawler but comes back to 1000m which looks a query. KUSU (5) ran well on debut last year and has trialled well for his return. Looks a danger. GALLIUM (11) looks the pick of the debutants from a soft draw.
SELECTIONS: Eros to win.

TOOWOOMBA: RACE 6 @ 7:45 PM

THIRD TIME ROUND (2) is a three-year-old NZ import having her first run for the Tony Gollan yard. Resumes here after finishing fourth over 1600m at Otaki on Feb 26. Has raced in group grade in New Zealand last time in and the one trial back was solid. Hard to hold out. BARNSBURY (1) made her debut in this region after coming up from Victoria when third at this track over 870m on July 9. Needed the run first-up and should strip much fitter today. WICKED'N' LOVIN'IT (3) is backing up quickly after finishing second at Ipswich on July 14. Hard fit and could take catching. LADY DANORO (4) looks set to peak today third-up after catching the eye here last start. Drops in weight and sure to be hitting the line hard. COURTINGROCK (11) has struggled to finish her races off and has no weight on her back today.
SELECTIONS: Third Time Round to win.
