Racing and Sports provides a horse to watch out of Saturday metropolitan racing on December 4.
Race 10: Tamerlane
Possessing a strong first-up record (2/3), the four-year-old gelding returned to the races over 1200m.
Settling at the tail of the field, a vigorous pace was set up front which left Bowman and his mount a long way off the leaders when rounding the home turn.
Electing not to edge the gelding to the outside, Bowman took gaps in between runners early in the straight, steadily taking ground off the leaders.
Passing the 200m the four-year-old commenced to lay in and proved somewhat reluctant to shift to the outside of the eventual winner.
Although Bowman was able to continually ride his mount with some vigour, he was unable to fully test Tamerlane until the final 50m.
Attacking the line, the gelding fell narrowly short (0.2L) but was ahead of the winner a short distance after the winning post.
Tamerlane's return was most encouraging and having drawn a better gate probably resumes a winner.
Appreciating the drier tracks, Tamerlane with even luck will prove extremely difficult to hold out in proceeding runs on these summer surfaces.
