West Coast star Elliot Yeo's latest injury setback is set to cost him more time out of AFL action in a 2022 campaign he would rather forget.

West Coast utility Elliot Yeo is facing another frustrating stint on the AFL sidelines after tearing a hamstring during Sunday's 35-point loss to Richmond.

Nic Naitanui was influential on return from a knee injury at the MCG and Tim Kelly produced one of his best performances in Eagles colours.

But West Coast, now 2-13 for the season, were no match for their classy opponents and Yeo's latest setback rubbed salt into their wounds.

The 28-year-old limped off during the third quarter after hurting his right hamstring while chasing Tigers speedster Maurice Rioli Jr.

The injury came in Yeo's third game back after a calf tear, concussion, health and safety protocols and suspension limited him to just two senior matches in the first half of the season.

"He just can't get a run at it," Eagles coach Adam Simpson said.

"He's been pretty good for us for three or four weeks and we built him up the right way.

"Unfortunately he just got in an awkward position and got pushed in the back going full tilt.

"It was one of those classic ones where you know straight away."

Naitanui had 19 disposals, 26 hit-outs and six clearances, with his tap work helping Kelly and Luke Shuey to have big games in the midfield.

The trio were important as the Eagles won the clearance battle (45-31).

"Nic's a pretty good player and it probably just shows you how important he is for us," Simpson said.

"He's our Max Gawn. He helped today for sure."

Kelly roved well to Naitanui's ruck work and had a game-high 40 disposals to go with nine clearances and two goals.

"He was a very important part of our side in keeping us together and when we got really going in the third quarter he played a big part," Simpson said.

West Coast host Carlton at Optus Stadium on Sunday, with Josh Kennedy set to return against his former club.

The veteran spearhead was rested for the Richmond clash.
