Fremantle players are being backed to make good decisions and put the team first when deciding on which places to visit during WA's COVID-19 peak.

Fremantle midfielder Caleb Serong says there's no set rules for what places Dockers players can and can't visit, but that going to a nightclub is a recipe for a COVID-19 disaster.

West Coast hit the headlines last week after it was revealed seven players visited a nightclub in Leederville in the midst of Western Australia's COVID-19 peak.

The Eagles' decision to fine each of those involved sparked debate about how much power a club should have in controlling the lives of their players.

Fremantle were hit hard by COVID-19 last week when six players were forced to enter the health and safety protocols.

Serong said the club are backing their players to make good decisions about which places to avoid during WA's COVID peak.

"You don't really want to go out of our team, whether that's through protocols or missing through injury," Serong told SportFM.

"Guys just have to make that decision - what's best for their footy and what's best for their preparation. We've had a few guys who have had (COVID) now who are immune for a little bit, and guys who haven't had it.

"We can't put in any hard and fast rules because at times it's different for different people, but it's common sense.

"If you go to a nightclub, you're more than likely going to get it."

WA is now regularly recording about 10,000 new daily cases of COVID-19.

Serong said he and his teammates were limiting their risk exposure as best as they could while still trying to live a relatively normal life.

"I don't think there's many, if any, guys that have been going out," Serong said.

"There's been a lot going for dinner and stuff like that, and you've still got to live your life to a certain extent. You can't stay at home and not do anything.

"There's a fine balance, but we're backing our players to make those right decisions and know right from wrong."

Rory Lobb, Travis Colyer, Blake Acres, Michael Frederick, Griffin Logue and Lloyd Meek could all be available for selection for Sunday's clash with Gold Coast after exiting protocols this week.
