North Melbourne coach David Noble will make a phone call to the AFL after being confused by some umpiring decisions in the Kangaroos' defeat against Melbourne.

The Kangaroos fought harder than they have for a month but the rampaging Demons had too much class and ran out 47-point winners.

But a tackle from North's Tarryn Thomas on Melbourne winger Ed Langdon that resulted in a free kick near goal in the first quarter perplexed fans.

Noble will look to clarify that decision and several others with the AFL in the week to come.

"I get that dangerous essence of tackles but from my side of things I probably thought it was an OK tackle, I was pretty happy with it," Noble said.

"I think we have to be careful and I think there's a balance on both sides and I'll probably be making a phone call on that one and a few others this week.

"It's a difficult job for the umpies to do.

"The frustration is more on the sense I think our guys are working their backside off.

"I appreciate it's a bloody difficult job out there and I think the game's got quicker."

North have slumped to 1-9 but Noble believes the Kangaroos have turned a corner after being most uncompetitive since almost upsetting the Sydney Swans in round four.

Midfielder Curtis Taylor will have scans on his ribs after being subbed out in the final term.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
