Sydney's Ladhams snaps at ex-AFL teammates

3 minute read

Sydney ruckman Peter Ladhams snapped twice against his former AFL club Port Adelaide and both times, it cost his team goals.

Sydney coach John Longmire says there's no point scolding ruckman Peter Ladhams just yet.

But the rebuke will surely come after Ladhams' costly brain-snaps against his former club Port Adelaide.

Ladhams' ill-discipline gifted Port two goals in four minutes during the third quarter of the Power's 23-point win on Saturday.

First, as a Swans teammate prepared to take a kick-in, Ladhams threw Port's Lachie Jones to the ground some 50 metres away from the ball.

The resulting free was paid downfield and the Power's Sam Powell-Pepper kicked a goal.

Minutes later, Ladhams tackled Port's Ollie Wines in the centre of the ground.

As the Power's Brownlow medallist was underneath him on the ground, Ladhams punched him in the ribs with his right fist.

Again, a free against Ladhams was paid downfield. Again, Port goaled, this time via Charlie Dixon.

"I didn't see it," Swans coach Longmire said of the Ladhams punch which was replayed four times from all angles on Adelaide Oval's large screens and on the television broadcast.

"I know there was something in it. I will look at that on Monday."

As at his post-match media conference some 30 minutes after Port's 23-point win, Longmire had yet to chat with Ladhams.

"I haven't spoken to him yet," Longmire said.

"Just let it die down.

"There's no point talking about it now, you're not going to solve anything straight after a game. He will learn from that 10-minute block."

Asked if such a reaction was inevitable to taunts from his former teammates, Longmire replied: "I don't thing anything is inevitable.

"You just learn from it.

"Hoped it didn't happen. It happened. Hopefully he learns from it."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
