Giants out to end tough season well: Kelly

GWS star Josh Kelly is adamant the club's difficult 2022 is not a lost season despite the Giants being set to miss finals.

After reaching the semi-finals last year, the Giants sit 14th with a 4-10 record and parted ways with long-time coach Leon Cameron.

With interim coach Mark McVeigh implementing a more attacking game plan since taking the reins, the Giants' results have been mixed.

But Kelly believes GWS can still finish the season on a positive note to carry them into a run at moving back up the ladder from next year.

"It's disappointing for the whole club, if that's the case," the Giants co-captain said on missing the finals.

"I think we're a club over the last patch we've always been amongst it and always given ourselves a chance to play finals.

"No doubt one of our goals has always been to play in a grand final and win a grand final, I think all teams have that aspiration.

"Luckily enough we've built a really strong culture and strong foundation where that is the expectation.

"To be hovering just outside of that mark is disappointing for us but at the same time we're really wary of the fact that it's not a season lost.

"Ultimately, that's going to set us up for years ahead and next year so that's something we'll take a lot of pride in."

GWS will host 15th-placed Hawthorn at Giants Stadium on Sunday in an extremely winnable game.
