Marnus Labuschagne has fallen just short of a second ton for Glamorgan in two days - after being thwarted by his fellow Australian Ryan Sidebottom.

Labuschagne followed up his 130 in the first innings at Derby with a dashing 85 from 87 balls second time around on Sunday as he looked to have set up a Glamorgan victory against Derbyshire.

But Victorian Sidebottom got rid of the world's No.1 Test batsman and took 4-50 as the visitors narrowly failed to pull off a thrilling run chase in a County Championship division two match which ended in a pulsating draw.

Set 331 in 55 overs, Labuschagne and Sam Northeast (81) tore into the target, reducing it to 32 off four overs.

But when Sidebottom removed Northeast to reduce Glamorgan to 8-308, the Welsh side batted out for a draw.

David Lloyd, with 49, had launched the chase with Labuschagne but the Glamorgan captain was issued with a level one warning on the field for abusive language after he was given out lbw to Sidebottom by umpire Paul Pollard.

Lloyd was issued with the warning for swearing loudly as he marched up the pavilion steps.

Labuschagne, meanwhile, cashed in on what looked potentially calamitous errors.

He was dropped at first slip, driving at Sidebottom, on 27. That was always likely to prove costly as the world's No.1 Test batsman went on twice to drive off-spinner Alex Thomson for six on his way to a 49-ball 50.

Labuschagne was then dropped again on 74 but Sidebottom finally got him when he failed to clear cover.

When Northeast drove Sidebottom to third man in the penultimate over with 23 still needed, Glamorgan called off the chase.

Earlier, Derbyshire's wicketkeeper-batsman Brooke Guest, who once played for Australia's Under-19s, scored 138 as they declared their second innings on 3-349.
