The Australian PGA Championship in November will boast $2 million prize money and co-sanction status with the DP World Tour.

Big-time international golf is set to return to Australia in November, with the $2 million Australian PGA Championship locked in as the opening event on the DP World Tour.

After two years in which Australasian tour golf was limited to domestic fields during the pandemic, the PGA Championship at Royal Queensland GC from November 24-27 should see the return of international players from what was the European tour as well as home-grown stars.

While the Australian Open has been shelved for two years, the PGA Championship returned in January with a domestic field and without foreign tour co-sanction status as local hero Jed Morgan made a name for himself with a record 11-shot victory.

Before that it was won by Adam Scott in 2019 and Cameron Smith in 2018.

PGA of Australia CEO Gavin Kirkman said he was thrilled that Royal Queensland would continue to host this event through until at least 2023.

"I think the return of the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship in 2021 will stay in our hearts for a long time," he said.

"Everyone's been through so much in the last two years in so many ways, so to see so many people out on the course at Royal Queensland following their favourite players, and to see the players themselves getting that opportunity to compete, it was just very heart-warming for us."
