Australian Whitney Hillier has won an emotional maiden Ladies European tour title in a team event in Thailand, the home of her mother Gai.

Australian Whitney Hillier has earned her first triumph on the Ladies European Tour after a decade of trying.

In the Thai homeland of her mother, Hillier captained her mixed fourball to a three-shot victory in the Tour's debut Aramco team series event in Bangkok on Friday.

It was an emotional victory for the 31-year-old Western Australian Hillier, whose mum Gai was born and brought up in Bangkok.

"This is my 10th year on Tour, and for my first win to be in a team event, that's pretty cool. It's incredible, I just loved every minute," said Hillier, whose only professional individual win was at the Brisbane Invitational in 2019.

"I've been patient, but it's worth the wait. I'm just now looking forward to tomorrow, too!"

The Thai event's accompanying individual tournament ends on Saturday, with Hillier currently lying 14th at three under par, six shots off the pace set by Thai Patty Tavatanakit.

Team Hillier ad led by one after strong opening round performances from the captain herself, teammate Krista Bakker, of Finland, and the group's amateur player, Bangkok businessman Pattanan Amatanon.

But it was the team's other professional player, another Bangkok local Chonlada Chayanun, who proved their star on the deciding day, as she shot a five-under-par 67 in the quartet's 31 under par total.

It helped secure victory by three shots from the quartet led by Argentine Magdalena Simmermacher.

"Even from the start of yesterday morning, we just had a good vibe. Like everything just flowed and obviously we played great golf, but we had a lot of the fun, so that was the most important thing too," said Hillier.

"To get this win is very, very special."
