Newcastle have signed prop Hannah Southwell, with the NSW Women's State of Origin player crossing from NRLW premiers Sydney.

Newcastle have poached NSW Women's State of Origin lock Hannah Southwell from Sydney, with the Knights continuing to build a stacked squad for the 2022 season.

Southwell joins Dally M medallist Millie Boyle and Tamika Upton as huge additions for the Knights, who are looking to improve on last season's winless return.

The 23-year-old Newcastle local is a three-sport talent, having played rugby sevens for Australia as well as A-League Women's soccer for Newcastle, her stint culminating in a call-up to the Matildas.

Southwell said she was excited to represent her hometown club.

"I have fond memories of going to Knights games as a kid and watching the likes of the Johns brothers, Paul Harragon and Danny Buderus," she said.

"It will be great to take on a leadership role within the playing group and the opportunity to potentially play with my sister Jesse down the track is also a huge bonus.

"The pathways created for female participation in this area presents so many opportunities, I look forward to helping grow the game in the region."

In better news for the Roosters, they've announced NSW Origin trio Sarah Togatuki, Jessica Sergis and Isabelle Kelly have re-signed with the club for the 2022 season.
