The Sydney Roosters will closely monitor Luke Keary's health as they consider the path forward on the halfback's latest concussion.

Keary's head knock remained the chief concern across the NRL on Sunday, after he caught an errant knee in Saturday night's loss to Melbourne.

The Roosters star suffered five head knocks across the 2018 and 2019 seasons, resulting in him being sent to a specialist and sitting out five games.

Saturday's knock was the 30-year-old's first since but the former NSW State of Origin playmaker grabbed at his head immediately and showed concern.

"He has shown improvement overnight and his progress will continue to be monitored throughout the week as he undergoes the necessary protocols," the Roosters said in a statement.

It comes after Roosters coach Trent Robinson said Keary was OK in the sheds after the match, while not well enough to return to the field.

The Roosters are renowned for being among the most cautious in the NRL when it comes to head knocks, showing great care for Boyd Cordner and Jake Friend before they were forced into premature retirements.

"The big thing will be how he feels today and tomorrow," Roosters legend and NSW coach Brad Fittler told the Nine Network's Footy Show.

"That is a big thing going through concussions. If you are getting headaches or there other things to come out of it.

"Because he has experience in this, these are the things he will be looking for."
