Diehards' Olds bros to play in World Cup

3 minute read

Brothers with fabled Brisbane club Valley Diehards will play for Wales in the Rugby League World Cup.

Brothers playing for Queensland club Valley Diehards have been picked in the Wales squad for the Rugby League World Cup.

James and Ollie Olds are among three Australian-based players in the party with Josh Ralph of NSW Cup side Monuties joining them.

Halfback Ollie, 29, has played Queensland Cup and Brisbane RL for Ipswich Jets and South Logan Magpies before joining Diehards. Centre James, 31, who followed his brother to Australia, has also played for Albury Thunder, West Brisbane Panthers and Albury Wodonga.

Valley Diehards are the current incarnation of Valley Fortitude, the storied club the great Wally Lewis first played for as a professional. They now play in the third-tier Brisbane RL.

The Olds are among three sets of siblings in the party with twins Ben and Rhys Evans, and Connor and Curtis Davies, also featuring.

The squad also includes Caleb Aekins, who was born and raised in New Zealand but qualifies to play for Wales through his mother's side of the family.

The uncapped 24-year-old fullback plays for Leigh in Super League.

The squad will be captained by Bradford back Elliot Kear and includes two uncapped players, Aekins and Wakefield's Kyle Evans.
