Anthony Modeste has joined Dortmund, Isco Sevilla and Alexis Sanchez is set for Marseille as several European soccer clubs look for short-term fixes.
The European soccer season has already kicked off in several major countries but the recruitment round continues unabated as clubs rush to upgrade squads before the transfer window closes.
On Monday the main movers were Anthony Modeste, Isco and Alexis Sanchez, players past their best, but still with something to offer as short-term fixes.
But there was also a player on the up, 25-year-old Argentine defender Marcos Senesi, who headed for the Premier League, and one whose career could go either way, Lucas Torreira, who left finally England for good.
Modeste joined Borussia Dortmund from Cologne, the French forward hired to replace marquee summer signing Sebastien Haller after the 28-year-old was diagnosed with a testicular tumour during pre-season.
The move also allows Cologne to remove a high earner from their wage bill amid tight finances, despite him scoring 20 goals last season.
"I am very grateful to Cologne for the wonderful and successful time I had there," the 34-year-old said.
"However, I have now decided to make a change. The offer from Dortmund has given me a special chance to play in the Champions League at my age and to prove myself at the highest level."
Former Spain and Real Madrid midfielder Isco joined Sevilla having been released by the La Liga champions at the end of last season after nine years in the capital.
The 30-year-old attacking midfielder signed a two-year deal and will work under Julen Lopetegui, who coached Isco when he was at the height of his powers with Madrid and Spain.
Sanchez, 33, had his contract at Inter Milan cancelled by mutual agreement. The Chile forward, who has also played for Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester United, is expected to join Marseille in France.
Senesi, who made his international debut in June after helping Feyenoord to the final of the European Conference League, has joined Bournemouth.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Wolves signed 25-year-old Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes on a five-year contract just minutes after confirming captain Conor Coady joined Everton on loan.
"Goncalo worked with Bruno (manager Bruno Lage) at Benfica and played with many members of our squad previously, so we're confident he will settle quickly into the group here," chairman Jeff Shi said.
Uruguayan international midfielder Torreira, 26, left Arsenal to join Galatasaray having spent the last two seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina respectively.
The Turkish giants also completed the signing of Belgium forward Dries Mertens. The 35-year-old joined on a free transfer after nine years at Napoli where he became the club's all-time top-scorer with 148 goals.
