On his absence from the track: “I’ve got a wedding later this afternoon so I wasn’t able to get up there. I’ve been in the office watching the first few races and devising a bit of a plan.
Race tactics: “We had planned on getting her going a bit earlier than what she had been. They outsprinted her but she handles the wet track well and she was a rock solid, fit mare dropping back from the 1400m to the 1200m in a week. That is the right recipe for a race like today.”
“We know how tough she is, that is why we put her in the race. She raced at Caulfield on Saturday and we had no intention of running her until we saw what was forecast in Sydney.”
“She came home from Melbourne, we got her home on Sunday night and she hasn’t left one bit of feed since.”
Future plans: “The main aim for her this prep is the Sunline Stakes, a Group 2 mile in three weeks time.
“Originally she was going to race next weekend and then go two weeks into it but the opportunity came up to run her on a heavy track this Saturday. It was an opportunity too good to refuse hence why we backed her up this week.
On acquiring the mare: “She was purchased for breeding purposes prior to winning the Penny Edition on the proviso the old owners had her for a couple of more races.
“We wanted to improve her stud value and to do that we had to prove her in the eastern states in Melbourne and Sydney.
“She’s placed twice in Melbourne over the spring in two Group 3’s and we’ve now been able to achieve a Sydney Group 3 win today so it has been a great result.”
Impressions of the mare since arriving at stable in spring 2016: She is an unbelievably tough mare, very sound and very honest. Not many mares can pull off what we’ve pulled off racing first up in Sydney, then 12 days later to Melbourne, then seven days later back to Sydney and win. Not many mares can do that. She is resilient and very tough.”

On the emotion of the win: “I’m a bit emotional with this win. For everyone in Canberra, I just want you to all know that we’re all thinking of you down here. It’s a big family up there and it was very fitting that this horse won on the day. All my thoughts and prayers go out to Riharna Thomson’s family and friends and everyone at home on the track, I know how tough it is and we’re all here for you, everyone in the racing community, so well done.”
On the finish: “I had him at the 100m. I was always going to get him. Joao was on tired legs, he sprinted away from me at the top of the straight but full credit to Matty, he’s dropped her back from 1400m, she’s backing up after last week so she was rock hard fit, she gets through the track, got to the right part again and the rest is history.”

Brenton Avdulla (Savoureux): “Ended up in a good spot, just struggled in the ground.”
Jason Collett (Zestful): “Would have been better if she had a bit of cover today but I was unable to get that today. Probably just took away from her finish late.”
Kerrin Mcevoy (Serene Majesty): “Pleasing run, she got some room to move in the straight and finished off solidly the last two furlongs. Good first up run, she’ll improve from that.”
Joao Moreira (Hieroglyphics): “She tries very hard, probably the testing ground just told a little bit at the finish and that’s where we lost the race. She gave me a good feel and I think she would prefer firmer going.”
Tim Clark (Alucinari): “Racing below her best and she was disappointing today.”
Jay Ford (Queen Of Kariba): “She was honest enough, come off the bridle well before the 600m and struggled to pick them up. She kept grinding away honestly.”
Corey Brown (Magic Of Dreams): “Had a great run in transit, quickened up nicely straightened for home but I think the quality of horse just too strong.”
