Winning Trainer: Richard & Michael Freedman

On the win: “He did surprise the way he went about it first up. I had a bit more confidence coming into today on the back of his work Tuesday. He looked like he’d really come on from that win. Mentally more than anything. Just looking at him there, he seemed to run a pretty straight course. Did everything right which for 2yos is a big thing.”

On the 2yo strength: “To keep the dream alive you had to not only come out and win but win well in my view because he has to go to the next level again in two or three weeks time.  The other nice thing is he handles the wet track alright. It gives us a few options as well.”

Winning Jockey: James McDonald

On the win: “He was the ultimate professional. His work on Tuesday was the same. He went through his paces really well. He worked with a really good filly that particular morning and just did it lovely. Nothing superb but a real tradesman like and I thought coming here today, as long as he got a nice run in the race, he would do what he did on debut.”

On comparing the 2yos: “He is close to the top there. I just love his attitude. He takes everything in his stride, the ultimate professional. He’ll get to a Slipper whether it is wet or dry and be very hard to beat.

On making the choice: “I just want to have another ride on him again.”

Beaten Jockeys:

Kathy O’Hara (Akihiro): No comment

Rachel King (Athelric): “Really good run. Just got a bit tired the last 50m.”

Josh Parr (Fox Fighter): “I was in it for a long way. He just got tired late so maturity will help.”

Nash Rawiller (Giannis): “Nice horse. Looking for a bit further but he really hit the line well.”

Jason Collett (Kalashnikov): “Settled well but not effective on the ground.”

Hugh Bowman (King Of Sparta): “He overraced in the middle stages which took its toll late.”

Tommy Berry (Montana Flash): “Just didn’t handle the track.”

Sam Clipperton (Headliner): “Just found the ground a bit testing but will be a lovely 3yo when she comes back.”

Regan Bayliss (Total Babe): “I know she has had soft track form in the past but that track is heavier than it is rated. The wheels were just spinning.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Vianello): “Really good run. She will enjoy further. Got skittled a couple of times but still hit the line.”
