Winning Trainer: Greg Hickman

On the run: “I thought we were in a little bit of trouble there for a little bit when he that low patch. You could see them all coming.

“But he just dug deep and he knew I needed the doe-rae-me.”

On the win: “It’s so good. It’s good for his owners who have been really good, and the staff at home, my wife.

“You can’t do it by yourself. It’s not about me, it’s about the whole group and it’s been a tremendous ride.

“To have Aquis colours on for the first time and to win for them, it’s pretty special.

On the horse: “It’s been an amazing ride and he’s been amazing horse. Hopefully he’ll do a good job at stud.”

“He’s been a wonderful horse to work with and go along with his career.

Winning Jockey: Tommy Berry

On the win: “I just trusted him. I knew he was the best horse in the race.

“I said to the connections and Greg just before I got in ‘worst case scenario we’ll be three wide and if we are we’ll just have to cop our medicine, believe he’s the best horse in the race and get the job done. Gee didn’t he pin his ears back.”

On the run: “Nash on Champagne Cuddles, he was right there in the one-one. I thought he might have been a pair further back but he took my spot.

“He challenged me a bit at the top of the straight but full credit to this bloke. I just can’t have enough praise for him, the owners, Aquis Farm as well now who are in him.

On the trainer: “Greg Hickman is an absolute champion. He deserves a good horse and he should have this fellow until the breeding season next year. I’m just rapt for him.”

Beaten Jockeys:

Kerrin McEvoy (Trekking): “Huge run by this fella. I got a little bit further back than ideal and the pace was only starting to come into the race at the 600m. It was a huge run to come on as well as he did.”

Glyn Schofield (Home Of The Brave): “Another brave performance. He just wants a bit more cut in the ground.”

Leigh Roche (Mister Sea Wolf): “He ran a good race considering. He wants a bit further - I think 1500m would be ideal for him.”

Aaron Bullock (Le Romain): “We got caught three-wide but I always had cover - I was on the back of Pierata the whole race. It was just good to see the big boy do what we know he can do; he’s run terrific. All systems go for The Hunter.”

James McDonald (Deprive): “He went super, just got a long way back. He ran home well.”

Brenton Avdulla (Brave Song): “He ran good, wasn’t beaten far. He’s just a better horse when he gets a bit of room.”

Robbie Dolan (Easy Eddie): “Disappointing run. He was right there and at about the 300m I thought I was right in it, but those last 100m he was just up and down in the one spot.”

Jason Collett (Redouble): “Soft run, no power.”

Todd Pannell (Kapajack): “Nice horse for the future. When they quickened he just floundered a bit but once he hit his top blade he really ran through the line good. Nice young horse in the making.”

Nash Rawiller (Champagne Cuddles): “Honest as the day is long. She found a nice spot and actually gave the winner a bit of curry for 100m, just the last 50m found her out.”

Glen Boss (Fiesta): “She gave me a great ride in the run, she presented like I was going to be in the top-three. Over the last furlong she put in a couple of awkward strides and dipped, and then she just never finished off.”
