On the Japanese breeding: “He’s a beautiful horse. Most pleasing thing is that that has matured mentally as a horse. He has relaxed in his races. 12 months ago you couldn’t rate him in a race like this. He’s got that turn of foot and you can do that over a trip.”

On the ride. “Tim Clark got there easily without using too much energy. He got some beautiful sections. Was able to quicken when needed too. Was confident throughout when he was getting a good time like that you knew when Tim asked for the effort he was going to be hard to run down.”

On the next run: “Melbourne I would like to get him down there. Exactly what sort of path we take and how we do it I’m not sure how we go about it.”

“He did a good job. I was able to control the race and turn it into a bit of a sprint home. Dry ground is the key to him. He’s a quirky horse but he’s improving all the time and he’s a nice stayer.”

Brenton Avdulla (Come Play With Me): “I don’t think the race suited him. We had to roll forward and sat outside a slow speed and he just wanted to overdo it off that slow tempo.”

James McDonald (Patrick Erin): “He went good. There was just no tempo but got home strongly. He’s going well the horse.”

Tommy Berry (Gallic Chieftain): “They just went very steady in the run. I couldn’t make a move on him which I would have liked to do at some point. That was just the nature of the race.”

Andrew Adkins (Sir Charles Road): “We landed in a good spot but the tempo didn’t help at all. If I had my time again I probably would have got moving.”

Robbie Dolan (Carzoff): “The race didn’t pan out to suit my fella at all. They went steady early then sprinted so he just ground away.”

Hugh Bowman (Youngstar): “She went well. It was a nice little barrier trial and she sprinted home well.”

Mark Zahra (Valac): “Poor today.”

Glen Boss (Our Century): “I probably should have been a lot more positive on him. I gave up a few spots early then they walked in the middle stages and I probably should have been more pro-active.”

Glyn Schofield (Azuro): “He went really well. He just wants a bit more of a test over these trips and we went quite slow.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Carif): “Good run. We ended up getting posted without any cover and he did really well to battle on for 2nd. He stays the trip well.”
