On leading all the way: “He’s had a terrific prep. Has been going really good. With due respect to Tommy he went too slowly at Newcastle with the big weight. Just let the horse roll and freewheel. Robbie has only ridden him twice and ridden that way two times. Admittedly one was a maiden.”

“He freshened up after Newcastle with a jumpout on Tuesday and went really good. Sun Stud are great to train for. I said to them six weeks ago to target this race. It was finding out the proper way to ride this horse.”

On Bottega: He ran well. Probably got him out of his comfort zone. They were rolling up front, running records up front. It was always going to be hard for him. This horse is tough with quite a few races as a 2yo. Hard and solid and fit while the other horse is still learning his craft. In a fortnight over the 1600m where the winner may not run it out as strongly.”

On the Bondi Stakes: “They’ll both go to the Bondi. A million dollars is a million dollars.”

On the horse: “He’s a beast, it’s tough to get him to relax, but he’s just needs to go to the front and do his thing.”

On the win: “It probably looked like he was going hard in front, a little bit keen, but he felt really relaxed down the back.”

“I just waited until we started to turn, I clicked him up and he picked up the whole way up the straight, it was great.”

“He’s not an easy horse to work with and credit to all of Gerald’s team and to Gerald himself, have to thank the owners for putting me on, they could have put any jockey on today and they stuck with me.

“This horse he proved them all wrong at Canterbury, he did the same thing, he led, gave a good kick and they couldn’t catch him, it’s great to do it again today.”

Josh Parr (Bottega): “He really struggled to get into the competition for the majority of the race hence the position he was in the field. He was strong late so he might just still be very immature.”

Nash Rawiller (Famous): “He had a lovely run, he just didn’t relax as well as I would have liked. He was very disappointing in the run home.”

Glen Boss (Brandenburg): “He went out of control. His splits must have been incredible. It was a strange race. They went quick and we were giggling in the middle but through the middle stages, there was nothing going forward. There was a lot of dead wood in front of me. The favourite - I would like to see his splits because they would have been out of control but this bloke has run real good.”

Brenton Avdulla (Fasano): “He travelled good midfield but he was beaten a long way out.”

Tim Clark (Cock Match): “He had a lovely run but just wasn’t up to it.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Rock Amore): “Fantastic run. He is going well. I was surprised the leader kept going. At the 300m I thought we only had to sustain the gallop we were going at, because he’d fall in a hole and we’d just about win the race. In the end they’ve collared him late just after having such a tough run. He is going well.”
