On what he’s been through to get here: “It’s very exciting. We always aimed for this race and to see him do that, get through quarantine in England, quarantine here at Canterbury so to have a first-up run like that is really exciting.”
“You always doubt yourself a little bit. We knew he was in good form, he came through the quarantine in really good order”
“We were confident he would run well, to win like that was really exciting so he probably exceeded our expectations.”
“But I must admit, everyone, the whole way along, they’re very accommodating. It’s a well-oiled machine now the whole way through the quarantine system and Racing Nsw do a fantastic job there at Canterbury to make you feel welcome.”
On the synthetic hoof fille being a concern pre-race: “No, not really. Annabel’s farrier just thought it was what he needed. He’s never missed a day of work or anything like that so really please.”
On the ownership group: “We’ve got a fantastic group of owners, BK Racing (former jockey Ben Vassalo) they came on board early on with him and a few other partners that have been with Annabel the whole way through so very rewarding for them. It’s very nice for them to get that today. It’s an exciting horse going forward isn’t he?”
On how they got him: “A big thank you to (Coolmore’s) Tom and MV Magnier. When I finished up at Coolmore, I ‘said can you find us one?’ MV rang up Annabel a couple of months ago and said, ‘I think this one will suit Australia, this is the one’.”
“So we bought him, BK Racing got on board along with a few other partners and here we are today.”
Winning Jockey: Brenton Avdulla
On the run: “It was a good win. He was very well presented by Annabel (Neasham) and her team. Talking to Annabel this morning she just said ‘ride him like a genuine, tough horse.’ She said today was probably going to be short of his best, so if you can get on your bike at some stage it will probably be beneficial.”
“He just gave me such a lovely ride with that tempo that once he got up on the bridle at the 800m I just wanted to go before everything else. Once I clicked him into gear he hit the front a long way out, but he kept sustaining his gallop like those Europeans can.”
On the type of horse: “He’s lovely and relaxed. So you just feel like you can switch him off and put him anywhere and he conserves his energy.”
