Winning Trainer: Chris Meagher (Andrew Kermond interviewed)

Thoughts on Arentee: “He's putting all together as a young horse, as a colt, he showed great potential in Melbourne. He was up here early and he was sent him down to Melbourne. A couple of his trials were very serious against some real group horses. I put him up here, his first start, he just got beat, he played up being a colt. Then we took him to Doomben and ran him over 1200, he got lost, he only got beaten three lengths. We gelded him and he's come back a very nice horse. He is a pretty serious horse this horse.”

Future Plans: “We’ll see what Kerrin (McEvoy) says about him. He is a top jockey. He’s raced Srikandi and those sorts of horses. The Guineas next week probably comes a bit quick for him. We didn't have enough stakemoney and he drew off the car park at Ipswich the other day so we didn't run him.”

Thanking stable and significance of win: “Congrats to all our staff and Chris. It's fantastic for Chris because Johnny is not well. He's named after a very good Group 1 horse in Singapore that I used to ride in work so it's a bit of a family affair.”

Winning Jockey: Kerrin McEvoy

On riding a winner for Chris: “Delighted to get one for Chrissy. I’ve known Chrissy since I was an apprentice in Melbourne and he’s a top fella, so it’s good to get a winner here for him today. He's liked the horse and he's a nice stylish horse. You look at him and then you sit on him and you think, ‘yeah, he's got some ability’. He’s done a good job there because he's only lightly raced.

Thoughts over the closing stages: “He had to bustle a little bit from the top of the lane but he kept picking up for me.”

Thoughts on Eagle Farm: “It's riding more like a racetrack. It feels like it's got more cushion on it. Matt Rudolph said that they’ve got the Kikuru growing through there. You can see it and you can feel it. It's riding better which is positive.”
