Winning Trainer: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr (Mick Price speaking)
“She’s a filly that has bloomed this whole preparation. I know when Walker in the Atlantic Jewel behind Night Raid she should have finished a lot closer, that’s fine, but I’ve had to nurse Night Raid and this thing has just bloomed and bloomed. I haven’t overworked her and she looked fantastic in the mounting yard. I’m just pleased for Michael Walker
“I’d have to say a big congratulations to Seamus Mills. We sat in that ‘dungy old’ office twenty years ago and have been working together for years and years and years. He’s been putting up with me, dragging him in here on Saturday morning to clock horses. It’s great now that he’s logged on a Group 1 filly. He does a lot of hard work and he’s a smart man.
Michael Kent Jnr now a G1 winning trainer: “I’m sure one day, by himself, he’ll have the skill and the intelligence and everything that’s needed to be a Group 1 trainer in his own right and he’s a great addition to the stable.”
“I have a soft spot for that ploke. I know it is very competitive for those jocks, but every Tuesday he is there, every Saturday he is there. He’s in the zone. He’s got a little baby, he’s got a good partner, so he’s got a good family background at the moment. He’s in that nice settled zone and he can do what he does best and that’s ride.”
Winning Jockey: Michael Walker
“Pricey said to me ‘what do you want to do’, I said ‘jump good, be in the first four but I’m not going to give away the lead too easily. I’ll make them work, which I did. I didn’t want to make her work uphill so I took the sit before the hill.
“Mate, cuz, I’ve never been this confident going into a Group 1. I really thought she could win today and she did.
Riding Group 1 winners: “It’s pretty good. I’m struggling to get rides at the moment. For what reason, I don’t know. I’m riding good. I had a good ride at Flemington the other day, and a Group 1 today. I’m just going to keep working hard.
“I’m very fortunate that Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr are huge supporters of mine. I’d just like to thank Seamus Mills and all his staff, his team and his owners for this opportunity. I’ve ridden a few winners for this owner and our first Group 1 together. Hope it’s the first of many.”
How he’ll celebrate tonight: “I’ll be changing my son’s nappies.”
From Michael Kent Jnr: “On cloud nine. Most amazing feeling. Even without there being a crowd here, family and friends, the emotions going through the body, it’s unbelievable.
Thoughts in the straight: “That was the cool thing. She was home a long way out. It was a funny race because there was a big pack of them in the first four. It was very messy in there. She got a lovely run and once he got her out and gave a kick, the race was over.
“We’ve been saying all week how she’s bloomed this week and she raced accordingly. She still won quite soft. Her ears were pricked. It was amazing.”
Tom Dabernig on Personal and Aidensfield: “She got pushed a bit wide on the turn but she did finish it off well. If she pulls up well we might press on towards the Oaks. She relaxed and hit the line strong, so it is worth some thought.
“Aidensfield looked like she didn’t quite run the mile. We might look at a 1400m race during Flemington, or she might have had enough. We’ll have a think about things.”
Daniel Stackhouse on Aidensfield: “We landed in a good spot and travelled well but we were under pressure a long way out and she didn’t run the mile out.”
Luke Currie on Rock My Wand: “She was a bit fired up and she didn’t finish it off like she did the other day.”
Luke Nolen on Love Sensation: “We got caught wide but we were beaten a long way from home.”
Jamie Kah on Agreeable: “It was a good run. We had to go back from the barrier. If she draws a barrier she probably runs a place.”
Hugh Bowman on Hungry Heart: “I thought she was credible because she didn’t settle with the blinkers on. I did give her a dig to switch her on after she missed the start, so it was probably my fault.”
Damian Lane on Thermosphere: “Ran honest.”
Mark Zahra on Night Raid: “Prefer her over shorter trips.”
Brett Prebble on Vangelic: “She raced tired. She had a gut buster last week and took it down here. She was out of legs and in front.”
Craig Williams on Instant Celebrity: “Really impressed by her performance. Just her run style makes it difficult for her. She ran extremely well in this grade and she’ll be winning a Group 1 shortly.”
Damien Oliver on Personal: “Tt was a good run. Very tough, very brave. Happy with the run.”
John Allen on Ecumencial: “He ran super. Just had a horrible run from the gate. Never got in but she was very honest.”
Jordan Childs on Mozzie Monster: “I thought she ran well. We went back from the gate, travelled good from the middle stages and got a good run through. I thought she ran honest to the line. Probably just needs a break now.”
