Winning Trainer: Danny O’Brien

On training the quinella: “They’re both progressive three-year-old staying horses and they’re coming into the right time of their careers now.”

On his thoughts in the run: “I was thinking that I’d get Damian Lane and drive him to the airport to make sure he got to Japan*. I don’t usually get to angry with riders, but before the race I said that I think we should go back to last rather than getting caught deep. He said ‘no I’ll get cover’. He didn’t.”

<O’Brien said later that Skiddaw will back-up in the Australian Derby next Saturday and Coin Collector would head to the Galilee Series Final and then the St Leger.>

*Lane is unsure whether his upcoming planned trip to Japan is still on or not.

Winning Jockey: Damian Lane

“He stepped up (to the trip) well. It didn’t pan out early, we had to cover extra ground in the run. Didn’t switch off great without cover. Just travelled into it too well.

“He had the leader keeping going giving him something to chase. If it was a bit longer he might’ve been a bit more dominant. He felt the pinch late and without horses around him that are more competitive, he was just found wanting a little bit late.”
