Winning Trainer: Francis Finnegan (on phone)

Put to him that it was a good training effort to get the win first-up over 2000m: “He won well, really, but I can’t take all the credit. The family in New Zealand are having a hell of a good run and they had him really fit before he came over.

“He was going to come here earlier for more of the three-year-old staying races but he we weren’t able to with the restrictions around COVID and travel. He beat older horses in New Zealand and I think he’s a mile-and-a-half horse but I’m not certain yet how high in quality he can reach.”

“He’s a good, tough staying kiwi horse.”

Winning Jockey: Will Price

Thoughts on the winner: “He was really good. He jumped, I didn’t expect him to have that much speed, grabbed the bridle straight away which was good and cruised along at his own pace. He put them to bed quite early on the corner and was quite strong.”

On performing like he did first up under the conditions: “Bringing him from New Zealand, Francis (Finnegan) has done a very good job with him first up over this trip (2000m). He has got bigger and better things in store.”

On riding his first Saturday metro winner: “It means a lot. Hopefully some nice rides keep coming my way and hopefully I’ll be able to keep making the most of them.”

“That’s definitely one box to tick, your first Saturday metro winner so it was a really good feeling going past the line.”

“Hopefully I just keep getting that support and keep making the most of my opportunities.”

How he’ll celebrate his first Saturday metro win: “A couple of movies and then going to bed I think. I had trackwork this morning so I’ll drive back to Ballarat and it will be quite quiet.”

Ciaron Maher on unplaced Thought Of That: “He just didn’t handle the track. Maybe forget this run but having said that he didn’t step out as well. He was also carrying weight and when he turns four he’ll be much easier to place over 1600-2000 metres.

“I know he ran in the Derby on a wet track but it wasn’t as wet at this.”
