Winning Trainer: Henry Dwyer (on phone)

“She’s been racing consistently without luck. It all played into her hands today with the soft track. She was super first-up and we’ve targeted this race for a while. Just needs wet tracks which we were looking for.

“We gave her a break even though she was going well (and hoped) the wet tracks would come along.”

Winning Jockey: Regan Bayliss

“It was a nice win. Henry gave her a bit of a freshen up. I tried (rode) her at Caulfield one day about a month ago and she trialled super. Her first-up run at Geelong was very good and she did at good job at the races today. She really liked that ground.

On the run: “It was perfect. Ended up on speed, didn’t go overly hard and everything worked in our favour.”

Mick Price on Oceanex winning Port Adelaide Cup at Morphettville: “Had to work for the first 1200m without cover, and the first time at the journey.

“Very good (performance) and she just might be a stayer. We’ll go to the Andrew Ramsden Stakes in a couple of weeks at Flemington.”

<Mick gave the impression that pre-race he still had to be convinced that Oceanex had staying potential and today gave him some confirmation.>

Ciaron Maher on second-placed Sopressa: “I thought she could win but Oceanex was the other quality horse in the race. I had some doubts over the distance but she ran well. We’ll look at heading to Flemington for the Andrew Ramsden.”
