Winning Trainer: Ryan Balfour (in Adelaide)

Quinella in Adelaide followed by this win: “She was really well placed there today. I was probably a bit surprised at her odds but you don’t ever be arrogant about taking a horse to Melbourne. She’s a dual stakes winner and she was so well weighted in that grade.

“There’s only one corner and I said to Brett (Prebble) to ride her where you want, they’re your reins and he’s obviously an international superstar. It’s good to see him back riding. When I saw that he was available I went ‘wow, yeah I’ll be grabbing Brett’ and he’s always hungry for a win.

“I said to ride her where you’re happy. I don’t care if you end up three-deep or what not. Just keep her comfortable and it was an absolute peach of a ride. He put her there and she’s so competitive. Absolutely awesome.”

What’s next: “She’s got a lot of options to consider. She’s actually a chance of heading to the May Sales on the Gold Coast as a broodmare. She’s in great order, obviously, but she’s rising five (years old), she’s got the two stakes wins and that’s still something we’re discussing with the owners. She hasn’t hurt her value today.

“Obviously fourth in a Coolmore and a dual stakes winner. We’ve got races to consider here (Adelaide) or go to the sales. If we go down that path then we might even find some races on the way there.”

Winning Jockey: Brett Prebble

“It was a good buzz. A good friend of mine part-owns, Scott Leckey, and he said the sling is going to be huge.

“They all got in their positions and stayed there. They didn’t really (allow me to) get where I wanted to get. Travelled really strongly coming to the home turn and she was the best horse in the race, really.

“I was quietly confident. The only thing I read on the form was no real exposure in a wet surface but other than that when I pulled up I was pulling rein, but he (Balfour) gave a really good push after the first-up run and coming back from a listed race to this was a bit of a gift, wasn’t it.”
