Winning Trainer: Nathan Dunn

First metro winner as a trainer: “Very special. I won on my first ride (Striding Edge at Moonee Valley) but it has taken me longer as a trainer.

“Wifey owns it so I have 75,000 reasons to be happy. There’s her Mother’s Day present early.

“I thought he earnt his chance today. His last two wins were good. His sectionals were good. He ran a course record. I thought being a three-year-old in a three-year-old handicap, he deserves his chance. Proven at the mile, I pulled two-kilos off his back, he runs good times.

“Some horses were suspect at the mile, we’re a mile specialist. I said to Lachie to take the race by the scruff of the neck and have a crack and we’ll go down swinging.

No firm plans next start: “That’s his third run with a ten day back-up so I’ll see how he pulls through and go from there.”

Winning Jockey: Lachlan Neindorf

“Credit to Nathan and the team. He’s a hard working bloke and it’s good for him and the team to get a result on the big stage on a Saturday like this.

“He summed the race up perfectly to me beforehand. He said there’s a lot of horses in that race today that were suspect at the mile or horses that were looking to get over further ground that were using this race as a stepping stone. It worked out well.

“He said that ideally we wouldn’t want to lead, just sit in behind a couple. He can have a think about it.

“We didn’t want to lead but we just had to roll forward from that barrier. I thought I’ll take it up and rate it up in front. At the top of the straight he was having a think about it. Every time a horse got near him he pinned the ears back and had a good crack.”
