Long time since last city winner: “Verdasco, nine years ago. Life was completely different then.

“I’ve been chipping away (since). I’ve had a few life changing experiences away from the track. I’m a widowed single parent these days so I do the best I can with a couple of horses. Found a nice one here and the people that bred this horse and race it are long-standing clients so it is like a Group 1 for us.

“You do the best you can with what you’ve got.”

“I have two horses in work with four on the books. I usually have two or three and a handy little mare that I’ve got, she’s in the paddock. She’s not far from coming back in.

“I always about 20 horses (back then) that’s with racehorses and pretraining. I’m happy doing what I’m doing.

“I’m happy to put him in the paddock or I know there’s a VOBIS Gold 2000m race here in a few weeks.”

Winning Jockey: Teo Nugent

“Sean was very confident coming into today. He needed the easy kill which he got last start at Werribee. He was probably a good thing beaten two starts back.

“Coming here today he gets in nice and low with 52.5 (kilos) and the speed of the race really helped. He jumped out well. It is all about finding the button with him and getting him to switch off. Just approaching the 600 (metre mark) he really took me into the race.

“I was a little bit worried a furlong out. We hit the front a bit sooner than what I thought (we would). He’s got great acceleration. We hit the front and he was probably left on his own but to his credit he got there.”
