“He worked around the first bend. He drew wide and we thought we’d get across easy enough and it didn’t work out that way. He was working the first turn on the big sweeping bend at Sandown. It all worked out well.

“He looked very good early, this horse. He won the Mornington Guineas in what has been a pretty good field. He has been disappointing but it's good to see him kick back in this race.

“He’s a genuine staying horse and Daniel has been in fantastic form. He’s done a lot of work for the stable and he took the initiative at the half-mile. He got rolling and on the Lakeside we have to be on the speed, he kicked and that was the winning of the race. Just good.

“He’s a genuine mile-and-a-half horse and he’s a horse that wants the cut out of the ground. Although it  was a Good 4 today I’m sure it had a bit of ‘cush’ out of it so this time of year is his right time.”

Winning Jockey: Daniel Moor

Horses kicking up early: “You’ve got two options in those situations: sit there like a stale bottle of you one what or press on and make a decision, and we did.

“This horse can hit a flat spot so at no stage did I want to be cluttered up and not be able to get at him when I wanted. It was a strong win in the finish because I did ramp it up a long way out with 57 (kilos).

“I know he’s the fittest horse and going through his runs he hits that furlong flat spot, horses get two or three lengths on him and he’s just not competitive. So taking luck out of the equation, I knew I was on a fit horse and just trust him a bit.

“He surprised me how he sustained it. I rolled the dice and he came up winning today.

“He hasn’t got an electric turn-of-foot, he just builds. You can ride a pretty race and be unlucky because he hits that flat spot. Either horses get the drop on him or you ride him like I did today and win races.”
