“He just had an unbelievable preparation last time and the team have done a great job with him. Nicky White who is here strapping him, she does a great job with him.

“We’ve got a plan with this horse to get him into the Andrew Ramsden Stakes and hopefully get his ticket back into the Melbourne Cup and focus back on that. He’s fantastic.

“A really good ride by Matty Cartwright. We told him to be patient and just back (have confidence) the horse. He does a lot of work for the stable and he was patient and very strong late.

“A really good effort and thank you also to the owners. They’re a great crew and I’m sure they’ll get a lot out of that.

“He’s an older bull now. You’ve got to keep them occupied and busy and he’s a beautiful horse around the stable but he’s a horse that needs to be in work so we’ll just keep him ticking over. He’s got to get back to the Ramsden and hopefully tick that off.”

Beat Brett Scott’s Irish Flame: “We hope Scotty makes a speedy recovery. I was just having a chat to Kylie. I’m sure it might give him a little lift.”

Winning Jockey: Matt Cartwright

First Saturday winner: “It was a great win and I can’t thank Ciaron, Dave, Rhys and the whole team enough for giving me the opportunity on this quality colt.

“There’s nothing better (than winning on a Saturday). It’s great to get the monkey off the back and hopefully it is onto bigger and better things.

“He’s a very nice horse. They rolled along at quite a good gallop and as soon as I got to the 550 (metre mark) I thought I’ll pop out now and give him a chance to run into it and he did. He toughed it out and it was a good solid win.”

Can he stay onboard towards the Melbourne Cup: “I hope so.”
