“I was surprised at the price he was, to be honest. He’s quirky and we’ve taken a little while to work him out but his trial was very good. I was confident. I had a good bet and told plenty, too, so hopefully everyone has got a pocketful.

“He’s probably got better races in store and I came here very confident that I had him right. It was all about getting him in a rhythm, getting him breathing. I said to Dean that you don’t have to lead but I’d like to see him rolling along and breathing. He doesn’t rest and he’s very good.

“We’ve had a few fourths and a third this week so it was our turn. I’m very grateful it was this one and he can continue on.”

What’s next - maybe better 3yo races: “Maybe but I think he might be a prep away. I don’t if he’s quite mature enough to attack a Derby yet.”

Winning Jockey: Dean Holland

“I was on the right horse thanks to the Laming stable. They given me a good go this carnival and it was good to reward them with a winner.

“I thought the rail has been dominant all carnival and I was surprised when I got there that easy and held the lead that easy and they sat off me. I was really never going to get beaten from the 800 (metre mark) onwards. I was trying to pinch a break on them and I was on a fit horse.

“I felt I caught them napping a little bit so I’ll give myself a pat on the back for that one.”
