“It was pretty difficult from the wide barrier and obviously he didn’t quite have the gate speed and had to go back and come through them.

“He is very good at finding the line, good old Brett.

“He’s got a very promising future. He can be a little bit quirky but he’s getting better and better. I was a little bit nervous 300 (metres) out but once Brett found the gaps there was no stopping him.”

Winning Jockey: Brett Prebble

“I really like that horse. He obviously has the connection with my old boss and his wife - it is just special.

“Terry O’Sullivan really made me at the start of my career and it is nice to be repaying them with some wins.

“Impressive horse and I’ve been impressed with him from the first time I sat on him in a little 600 metre jump out at Horsham. I actually told some clients in Hong Kong that he might be a horse they’re after but Terry and Robin, they know what they needed here and they’re going to have a lot of with him.

“He had an awkward sticky gate. If he jumped well today we were going to go forward but he was probably jumped a half-neck slow and I thought ‘oh well’ A-plan gone so go to ‘B’.

“He’s still learning his trade a little bit. That 1700 metre tempo is a lot slower than the 1400 and mid-race he was really wanted to get on with the job.

“I thought they were going a nice enough speed and I just wanted to relax a little bit more. Coming down the hill he actually did. He handles the hill here good and it was just finding the hole, really.

“Once I found the hole it was game over. He’s a nice horse going forward and they’re going to have a lot of fun with him.

“The last 100 metres I was soft on him. I didn’t really have to churn him right out to open him up. He’s an exciting horse.”
