“Ollie rode him beautifully. You need good rides like that in Cup Week to get the ‘W’s’ (wins).

“It has been a bit of a target race actually. I think we had him running a bunch of placings in the winter and Tim Clark was texting saying that he’d run out of ideas with him and Ollie wanted some insight into the horse and I guaranteed him that he’d get plenty out of him.

“We’d freshened him up recently so we targetted the race, talked to Dominic Beirne about it and that this race would be a good one for him to resume in.

“Credit has to go to Paul Reid and the guys at Osborne Park, who have just managed him beautifully all prep.

“He had a really good preliminary, he was nice and forward for the race. He looks a bit big but he’s fit and Ollie was able to use his turn-of-foot.

“Great ride but he was absolutely ready to run a good race on the day.

“He’s an import having his second preparation for us so there is a bit of a factor there. The last time he saw a good track he was overseas. He bumped into soft tracks earlier this year.

“He’s kicked off well and I think he can keep progressing.”

Winning Jockey: Damien Oliver

“They’re nice colours to be in and you know you’re riding nice horses. I don’t take it for granted, that’s for sure.

“This horse - my first sit on him - but I noticed him trialling well in Sydney so a bit unknown but down on the minimum, a beautiful run through and every gap that came to him albeit narrow sometimes he took it with gusto and it was a good win.”

Did he ring TIm Clark: “No I didnt. I looked at a couple of his replays. Sometimes it is better not to know too much about them. You just go with an open mind.

“He had run a few seconds and he was very genuine to me today.”
