“He’s done really well (since last start). That day at Caulfield, down the back when we were saddling him up he was way above himself. He was borderline uncontrollable.

“We put a line through that but he worked really well here on Tuesday and Ethan was on his first-up. It was a good steer then and a good job by the team.”

Nominated for the Cups: “He’s been over here for quite a while. We’ve got a group of horses just hitting the tracks now and they’re heading the right way. They’re all in that 70 to 80 rating.

“With this year being an indifferent year, we’ve whacked them in the Cups. If they take the necessary steps (then) at least they’re in. Obviously they’ve got to in the races to do that but they’re all nice horses and all come up really well.”

On arrival at track, straight to look at it: “The way the track I thought would be playing, things panned out perfectly then. He’s a nice horse going forward. I thought he did a terrific job under the weight.”

How has his progression been: “He’s a different horse today. At Caulfield he was very hot-headed, didn’t really handle the pre-race in the mounting yard. Today he was so calm and relaxed and he raced really well. He quickened well through the line and will definitely relish getting out in distance.”
