Trent Busuttin

Flushing Tycoon: “Looking at the nominations it’s not the strongest of fields and certainly if he can replicate that run from Flemington you’d think he’d be very hard to beat but he’s 60 kilos.

“The worry is this weather and he just doesn’t go on wet ground. We’ve accepted and praying that the rain misses (Cranbourne) as much as it can. If it gets too wet he won’t take his place.”

Confident he can step up to 2000m: “I am. Purely on the horse. Written Tycoons, we’re alway hesitant about stepping out past a mile but he kept on telling us and he was very strong through the line at 1800 metres so I’d suggest the 2000 metres won’t be a worry.

He’s Xceptional: “He ran every well at Moonee Valley two starts ago. He ran third and then was a little bit plain last start but we’ve given him a bit of a freshen up and he’s going well.

“He’s won here at Cranbourne, I think, at his first start. Up on speed runner and I think he’d be very hard to beat.”

You Ess Ess Are: “She’s just a nice sharp filly that has been to the jump outs a couple of times and been very quick.

“On the dam side she’s out of a European mare and we didn’t think we’d be seeing too much of her as a two-year-old but she’s thrown to the sire and she’s nice and sharp. She’ll run on Saturday.

“I think her first jump out might have been a bit wet. To be honest, I’m not sure. I think Russian Revolution won a Group 1 in the wet but who knows. We’ll see on Saturday if she gets through it.

“She’ll have one run and then go in the paddock. But we like her, we have an opinion of her and if she draws a barrier and gets through the gate, she’ll be up there somewhere.”

Gavin Bedggood

No Effort - Can she win the Cranbourne Cup: “I would say I’m hopeful, rather than confident. It looks a race of plenty of depth. She’s had a great preparation. She’s got a good record at Cranbourne and it looks like we’re going to get wet ground and she excels on that also.”

Through her in the deep end last start: “She’s freshened up and going really good. She went down to Monomeith Stud Farm and had 10 days on the water walker and out in the paddock during the day and freshened up nicely.

“She came back and we haven’t had to do a lot with her. She’s got a lot of residual fitness. She’s had a long campaign and we’ve kept her ticking along and kept her fresh as we can in preparation for this race.”

Going as well as when she won the Heatherlie: “I would say she’s probably going not as well. That was a target race that day and we were able to tick that off, but she hasn’t taken a backward step or given us any reason not to run her. She’s nice and bright, her work’s been good and all the indicators are there that she’s going to run well and we’re just mindful that it’s been a long campaign and it’s hard to peak them a few times through a preparation and have her right each time.

She seems to get better each time she comes back into work: “We thought when she won the Traralgon Cup 12 months ago or the Pinker Pinker Plate the preparation before, that was going to be as good as it gets for her, but for her to come back and put two together on end and go from benchmark to open handicap racing level, and take that next step and go to a stakes win, she’s done a fantastic job.

“She doesn’t owe anyone anything and whatever she can do on Saturday is a bonus.”

Sir Kalahad in Apache Cat: “If we get plenty of rain on Friday and Saturday and the track is in that heavy 10 category, it definitely wouldn’t surprise me. The horse is in fantastic order. He had a jump-out eight days ago and could not have trialled any better. He’s bright, he’s well, he’s work has been fantastic. He’s had a long campaign, but his runs have been spaced but he excels on wet ground.”

Key the rain for both horses: “The heavier the better, especially for Sir Kalahad. He probably goes from a $40 or $50 chance in that sort of race to single figures in the market. 1000 metres has never really been his distance, but heavy ground probably slows a few others up and he really excels on it.

“She’s two-from-two on it as well. You can probably discount a few that don’t have any form on it and you know she’s going to get through it and make her own luck up on the speed and take bad luck out of the equation.”

Both will go to the paddock after Saturday and have between eight and 10 weeks off. No Effort will come back and get ready for the VOBIS Gold Mile at the end of April.

Robbie Griffiths

King Magnus - Can he win: “He can. He was very good in the Cantala and hit the front in the shadows of the past and beaten in a blanket (finish) in a Group 1.

“It’s a very good race and the Club will be happy with the line up but he’s in good form and handles all conditions. We’re pretty up beat about him.

“Mat and I were delighted with the way he has developed and the Buffalo River run at Caulfield was very good under the penalties conditions of the race so dropping back to the handicap scalee of the Cantala we thought that he could be well and truly in the mix.

“How close he could get was the unknown and we think that he did us very proud. He’s one of the horses that every time you raise the bar he tends to come up another cog and he did it again in the Cantala. He’s come through the run well so fingers crossed he can do it again.”

Keeping the horse up and happy: “We’re very fortunate that we’ve got the best facilities there are, we believe, in racing at the Cranbourne Training Complex and having that variety of facilities that we’ve got has been proof in the pudding of how long he’s stayed up in training.

“We were happy to put him out after the Cantala but he’s held up really well and because he has we thought we’d dearly love to win our hometown Cup and he’s presented in good order every day since so here we are and we’re going to have a crack.

Wet track, racing at Cranbourne and barrier 11: “He’s handled a smaller circuit ok in his earlier days. He won at Moe on debut and a lot of his racing has been on bigger tracks, so some of those questions will be asked on race day but he’s been adaptable for most of his racing thus far so I think he’ll be ok.

“His wet track run going into the Buffalo River race when he ran second was a question mark and he ticked that box quite well. His family genetically have handled all conditions so I think he’ll be versatile enough to tick the box on race day.
