“I haven’t ridden him on raceday but I have done plenty of work on him at home. Patrick was pretty right today. He thought that in the future he’d be a horse that’ll be suited down the straight and roll along in front. He thought that would be his go. Lucky it went to plan today.”

Did she think Japery would win so easily: “I didn’t actually. I thought that if he could lead he’d go very good. It was a good credit to himself.”

On the track: “Track seems like it’s playing fair. It is quite windy. I actually couldn’t hear Oli screaming so that’s how windy it is out there. I think the track is playing evenly. It’s only the first (race) so it’ll be interesting how it goes.”
