Winning Trainer: Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott (rep by Alva Prendergast)

“Gai said that at no stage did she think we were going to win. Everything that could go wrong went wrong.

“Horses that lose plates generally don’t win. But he (Craig) has done a good job from the start. He was very patient on him. Super ride.

“He’s got around Caulfield well enough today. He’s still very green. Bumped in and moved in a couple of times but credit to him, he just got the head down and got the job done.

“He’s been here (in Melbourne) for about a month now. He came down and had a run. We took it nice and slowly with him. We gave him a jump out last week so when we came here today we were quite confident. But after the start all our confidence was (lost) but credit to Craig and the horse.”

Winning Jockey: Craig Williams

“I was pretty fortunate today. Gai had Nash ride the horse in a jump out and when I spoke to him yesterday he was quite bullish about the horse’s chances and it was nice to reward the Melbourne stable and the big Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable. They’ve all worked really hard. It was nice to see him get his head in front at the right time.

Tactics: “It was either follow the favourite (Grinzinger Allee, Oliver) or Regardsmaree (Billy Egan) and when Billy jumped quite quick I was just marking time at that time. And when Damien went to come out and we made our run together, it was just late that my horse happened to follow Damien’s horse and he stuck his head out at the right time.

“It would have been nice if I could have riddem to the instructions from Gai Waterhouse but I was unable to do it with what happened pre-race with the shoe. I have to thank Racing Victoria stewards and veterinarians. It just shows that the horse had to be fit to race after pulling a shoe off and it worked out really well today.”

** ARCHIE ALEXANDER ON BARADE WINNING MM SHOOT OUT AT EAGLE FARM **

“That was my first winner from my first runner in Queensland. I’m slowly picking them off.

“It’s fair to say that sometimes you take your second-rate stayers to some of those races but he’s better than a second-rate stayer. Not a topline stayer, but still a stayer with ability.

“He’s won during in Melbourne Cup week and gone well in other races. It worked out really well today.

“I’m not sure whether we’ll go to the Magic Millions Day or not because the conditions for the race have changed. We might try and find a race in Sydney on the way home.

“He‘s been incredibly progressive after a few issues. To think he was in the Mortlake Cup about 12 months ago, and now to win a race like this, he’s gone so well.”
