“He was a cheap little buy this horse. He was passed in and we bought him for $20,000. A good bunch of owners and they’re here to see it.

“It’s great to be back down here and hopefully we’ll get down to the Whalers tonight.

“We thought we’d drop him back to the 1700 metre with the wet tracks - he’s been running over 2000m. He was knocking at the door and we thought we’d get a wet track here which is what he needs being a Tavistock.

“Maybe he might get to a Queensland Derby, who knows. He’ll see the trip out anyway so that is half the battle.

Winning Jockey: Craig Newitt

First Warrnambool Carnival winner since 2012: “It’s nice to be back with the crowds in full swing. This was my best ride for the carnival so it was nice to get him over the line.

“It felt a bit hairy coming around the corner he was travelling that well. I was stuck behind the two leaders but when he got to the outside he went well.”
